Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

XMA7A Experimental Sniper Rifle

Post by rossmum »

Few of you may remember this from a few months back... I decided to redo it. Front end is from my BR, rear end is a modified assault rifle stock (I'll make my own when I find the time). Model is a shade over 2000 polies and there's still optimising to do... *opens gmax before I forget* *fixes* Done.

No decent pics as yet, Reaper should have a render sometime in the not-too-distant future... We're thinking of, aherm, using this in something of ours ;)

Silenced, semi-auto BR with new muzzle flash and stuff, 50% stronger, longer range, 4x night scope. Hehehehehe.

And for those who didn't see the old one, dodgy skin application thanks to me:

??? dude... it's a smoothed cylinder

well, nice idea anyways. but why would i want a lower caliber sniper rifle when i could just use the .50?

I really like it. Great combination. I think they look good together, and the silencer makes it look cool.

well like for ambush i have 2 semi auto low power snipers and 2 bolt action 1 hit kills snipers...but there are more of the semi auto ones then the bolt. theres only two bolt action ones on the map. so its sort of like a balance thing if ya think about it and another sniper for people who like to snipe

Because a .50-cal sniper isn't nearly as easy to move around or fire in harsh conditions. Besides that, there's also the fact it's pretty useless at point-blank range.

And no, it's not a battle rifle OR assault rifle... It's a combination of both :P

i hope by that you mean in a hot zone...most .50 cal rifles wiegh between 10 and 20 kg. the one in halo is 26 kg, 57 lbs so its relativly heavy but not that heavy. plus unless you have some strong winds there is so much powder in a .50 cal bullet low winds wouldnt do much.

this is modified version of the battle rifle, not a sniper. unless it kills in under 3 hits which then no ones gunna want the .50 cause it'll prove useless compared to your rifle and over powered. it's all about balance

Thank you, Dos Mes.

I made the entire front end myself. And this thing is about 50% stronger than the BR, meaning one or two headshots will kill although ammo will be hard to come by.

And the SMG bears a striking resemblance to the PDW in Half-Life 2. (Forgot the gun's real name.) It seems that Bungie looked at more real weapons for inspiration when they made them for H2 than they did when making Halo.
