How would I change the lighting in say... AotCR?

Post by pantsaregood »

As in; Make the level seem like it's night, rather than day. I'm not talking about adding in "fog," either. That would work, but lighting effects (like your flashlight) won't work correctly in that form of lighting. How would I make it actually dark, like Truth and Reconcilliation? Darker than T&R, but it gives you an idea.

Also, is there a way I can make SP Master Chief black rather than green. Black, as in the MP black skin.

Like I said; I don't want to edit fog into the sky. It does make it look like night, but the flashlight, gunfire lights, and warthog lights don't work correctly at all in it.

Editting the lightmaps, eh? How would I do this? >__>

1. Open your map in HMT.

2. Expand [bitm] Bitmap

3a. If you're editing an MP map, click "levels\test\MAPNAME\MAPNAME"

3b. If you're editing an SP map, click "levels\MAPNAME\BSPSECTION" (Note that SP maps have multiple lightmaps for each BSP section, and you may end up editing all of them)

4. Extract all the bitmaps from the tag.

5. Open up all the bitmaps in Photoshop.

6a. To brighten/darken the map, use "Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast" and fiddle with the settings. (Note that it's best to use the same settings for all the bitmaps so your map looks evenly lit.)

6b. To change the color of the light on the map, use "Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation" or "Image -> Adjustments -> Color Balance" (Note that it's best to use the same settings for all the bitmaps so your map looks evenly lit.)

7. Save all the bitmaps. (The format should be "R5G6B5")

8. Reinject with HMT.

Alright, thanks a lot. I've been wondering how to correctly do this for a while. The sky settings worked at first glance, but if you attempt to use your flashlight or anything, you get no effect. >_>

...alright, how do I extract this? -_-

If I extract each individual DDS, then I can't open them in Photoshop. DDS isn't a compatible format...

When I attempt to reinject, it says it's not the right file format. -_-

It says that I need to be using DXT1... I AM using DXT1. On top of that, the original bitmap is 128KB, after I darken it the bitmap is 32KB...

...and any ideas on changing the spartans from green to black? <_<

Where does the format go? There are several places that contain RGB selection, just "the format" doesn't explain that too well. The only time I even see the word "format" is while selecting file type, which obviously isn't what I'm talking about...

And when I'm on the other format dialog, with the different DXT settings; I still only get 32KB files, even doing what you said. -_-
