To answer a few skeptical questions:
Hunter wrote:Erm, a ring with a diameter of 10,000 km. Those sections are still gonna be huge. Unmanageably so.
Well technically, Alpha Halo was 10,000km around. None of the seven rings are the same. We can actually make the smallest ring (which by story has gone undiscovered so we would be able to make it our own way or how we wish) which would be less than half that. Still big, but not as big so it is easier to deal with both for the designer and maker.

As for figuring out how to break this map into sections without interfering with gameplay too much, I'm still trying to figure it out.

(sorry if I seem stubborn but it seems to make so much sense in my head. I do not take impossible as an answer)

It's a great idea, and I would absolutely love to play it, but the mapping itself would take atleast a few months, and that's just for the terrain. Thinking back to playing through the SP levels, there are all sorts of differant terrain, and the size of the SP maps is friggan ungodly. I mean, for the PoA map, they had to make frickan space and things.

Just imagine the praise you would get, though. Even the most basic mapping/modding team would get praise for making this, because it's never been done before.(To my knowledge.)

If you do decide to start this, I would have to say that I'm behind you 100%. Even though I can't do crap as far as helping, you've got my support. Though not monetary, I've still gotta pay for my Xbox 360.

the halo engine would never allow a ring as a bsp.... you wouldnt be able to walk around it....

i Think If Its Done It Should Be Called Project:7 (Guess Why)

Each X Amount Of Months A Team Of Highly Skilled Developers Creates A New Piece Of Project 7 (The Halo) Thats X long, With Each New Map U Can See A Little More Of The New Halo.

It will not be Instillation 005 from Halo2 because that would still be too large to create. My theory is that the first ring was the smallest, and as the Forerunners gained technological advancements, they made the rings larger each time. So with that, Instillation 001 is the smallest (although there is some arguing saying the first one was 000 but you get what I'm saying.

I actually have another idea though. The map would be called Installation 666 and it would be a broken peice of AlphaHalo (from Halo1, the one MC destroyed). Would be kinda cool.

EDIT: Why the hell was I so ****ing blind! We don't have to make a map that goes full circle, the actual map itself can be totally flat but with some seriouse outside affects, we can give the illusion that as you walk around, your walking around the ring when you are really just walking a flat path. We can have teleporters at each end of the map to take you from one end to the other and make it appear full circle. (Another idea is to make the ring in the sky spin slowly as you move, then stop when you do, to give the illusion that you are actually walking on the ring).

Having a flat map would relive a llot of problems. Now we just need to know how to make the map really large without problem.

There you go, its that easy:

Just a flat map. We fill that space with land (can be all grassland if you want to make it easier). The two ends with water. There is plenty of room (even when giving up some for water) to make what ever you want (temples/structure, multiple environments and underground tunnels).

I cannot believe no one else thought of it though, its such a simple idea. That eliminates every problem except for the vastness of the map.

Go with the origional idea. Make seperate maps. Have one be a giant grassland, another be frozen tundra, another be a swamp, another be wasteland, another a giant forest, etc etc.

So true. Unless Bungie is a lot like me (quite possible) and did not find the most odvious map idea.
