Re-copy Halo 2 to your HDD is what I would do.
Unless you've already tried?

hmm....if you can FTP to your xbox, then erase the whole directory of Halo 2 on your HDD, then try re-copying it again....I don't know why your maps won't load, thats interesting....

Yes my XBOX does this everynow and then. I usually delete all the files and put my back ups of my Mods and then copy the rest of the cd again. I havent really figured out why it does this but that "technique" seems to work for me. Good luck!

You know what could help, putting mainmenu.map(well I guess you have it there already) shared.map, and to be safe single_player_shared.map into your map folder with all your other maps.
Awaiting connection...

Those files are automatically put in the maps folder.....they would be in there from the beginning. At least, that's when the disc is copied with pxHDDloader

Those files altogether only add up to a little over half a gig.....not much space to be saving :) . But who knows, maybe he has a stock hard drive and wants every little bit of extra space he can get....ya never know :P
