hey yall, ive been working on this testingmap for a long time now, over a month, and its finally completed, though it may not look that way in game.

here is stuff from my post on the other forums

so this map is gonna be for testing vehicles and whatnot. It will mainly be for testing and getting bugs out of vehicles but it will also support ctf, slayer, and maybe race.

The maps purpose is to see how your new vehicles and stuff, maybe moveable scenery, react with their environment. I have the 14 main textures in it which are dirt, sand, stone, snow, wood, metal(hollow), metal(thin), metal(thick), rubber, glass, plastic, water, leaves, and ice. Though there are 30 or so total kinds of shader types, i decided that most people that are going to be making a map with grunt or elite stuff in it probably know what they are doing, so they dont really need it in this map. And besdies, it i had all that in my map the poly count would be well over 10,000 and i dont want the map to lag at all if possible.

The textures in the map are pretty self explanatory. Each texture type has a picture of what the texture is and a word that says what the texture is, kind of like this which is actually in the level and in my opinion is one of the coolest textures

The map itself is huge. Each room is 4000X4000X4000 units which is 64,000,000,000 units cubed. Each tunnel connecting the rooms to the center is 1000wideX1000highX6000long or a total of 6,000,000,000 units cubed. I dont remember wut the center piece is but it has a bigger area than the rooms. Thats a total of ABOUT 135,000,000,000 untis cubed, and thats just for one room, there are 13 different rooms in this map

thats 13 rooms aand tunnels at 70,000,000,000 units cubed each plus the centerpiece is around 980,000,000,000 units cubed.

and get this, THE WHOLE MAP IS BELOW 3100 POLYGONS

Do you get that its HUGE yet?

What im trying to do now is get the final section to get uvwmaps, the center piece is being a pain and everytime i uvwmap it, it makes max close down cuz of an error

Here are some pics of the almost finished product. The center needs to eventually get uvw and the rest is done and readyfor the game

these pictures are to scale and will not be resized for the final product. Use of vehicles is higly recommended when going around in the map

this last picture is one of the Longsword fighters that you see in the first level of halo 1 and at the end its the ship you get into

i could not figure out why the center section would not apply the skin correctly so i decided to give up on it. it just looks bad, bu8t does not effect gameplay

The centers shader type is called leaves and it is a pic of leaves with writing that says leaves

I hope you guys like this and i hope i get lots of praise for it

Read the readme if ur a total noob and dont know how to make a map

Ok, when I saw this, I thought awesome! A new scenario file to test my new tags.
When I went to edit it, it all seemed fine, till I tried to run sapien. Getting that thing to work is a bitch. You have to first go into the scenario file, refind the scenario bsp, then go into the scenario bsp and refind all the shaders. Then you have to go through all the shader enviroments and refind the bitmaps. I don't really like bat files, had very bad experiences with them. I'll post again when I get everything in order.

did u paste the tags folder over ur orignal tag folder, cuz it wont work if u put it in levels\test\testingmap

and also, where is ur CE installed to, cuz mine isnt in the normal spot

The one thing I would like done is the names of the textures taken off the actual texture...it is annoying.
Other than that, great test map. I can finally test my warthog lights.

i might get flamed by noobs who cant tell the rubber texture from snow and have joined -5 days ago

the words, though annoying, help overall, cuz some of the textures look alot alike on low end gfx cards(on my lowest setting, the metal thin and the plastic textures look almost identical)

at first i tried to do it both ways, but people liked it the way it is now, so im gonna leave it

P.S. if u dont like the way it looks, u could find a different texture of the shader type and run it through tool with the same name as the original and do same for bump map, then itll be different but the same. just make sure u create the directory

why didnt u finish it instead of giving it out as a test map? its huge! it could probobly hold a scarab or 2! y did u give up and decide 2 use it as a test map?

It was a test map from the start.Anyways, read his post. It clearly states this fact. And if i remember correcly, it took him 1/2 a day to run radiosity. And thats 1/8 of a SP Map. (for comparision)
Its a recreation of bungie's test map. Ever watched the bonus dvd from the special edition Halo 2?
