Can't join game with friend

My friend recently purchased halo for the pc. When we both used to play the trial version, we could both play in each others games. Now since he bought his, it seems we can't see each others games. I too have halo for pc. We have both updated our games. Can someone tell me the problem?

It is a network problem. Check your network/internet settings.

What do you mean you can't play with him?
Cannot connect to the server?

I don't mean to be mean, and I'm sorry if I'm too dumb to see this...but
