to ce mod, you need halo ce and the hek (gearboxsoftware.com in the forums), along with 3ds max (discreet.com). you may also want photoshop (adobe.com) or paintshop (jasc.com)

to pc mod you will want sparkedit (on this site somewhere in utilities, which is at files.halomods.com)
hmt v3.5 ( again, in the utilities section) other programs that are very useful are winrar, a very effective ziping program, to open and compress files and mods. and HHHT (helpful halo hacking tool, in the utilities section) and, if you want to make .ppf's to post mods at halomods.com, you will want to get ppf maker, i am not sure if it is at this site, but you could probably find it in a vivisimo search (vivisimo.com)

there you go, everything you need to mod halo, considering, that is, that you already have halo installed. good luck with your mods :)
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

As former mod director at BGH, well HaloPlanet... I've got to do something.

Well, what do you want to do? Do you want to just MOD*? Or do you want to create new content**?

*MOD-
Changing current levels, weapons or other content already in the game.

**Creating new content-

Title pretty much says it all.

*Modding-

Now to mod you'll need certian tools which I'm sure you can find somewhere on these forums;

Halo Map Tools v3.5 (HMTv3.5)-

It is more or less the best user created tool (That I've seen, I have more or less left Halo modding for 2 months) and can do Map rebuilding (Turn a Single Player map to Multiplayer) and also Perfect Model Injection (Bring models from other levels, to levels without them. (Wraith on Blood Gulch for example))

Spark Edit 3.0.2-
I'm pretty sure that is the most recent version of it, it's more or less a scenario editor. You can add more scenery to a Level, more weapons, those kinds of things.

You'll also need PPF-o-MATIC to create PPF files to patch the old level so you can give your mods to people.

**Creating new Content-

You'll need the HEK first off. It allows what you create in your 3D Editor (3d Studio Max and Gmax are the only supported ones I think) to be imported into Halo and used in the game.

3d Studio Max 3.x-6 is what you need to create new objects, vehicles, and levels. You'll need a Plugin that comes with HEK to export them in the right format to use.

Also, you'll need to download a newer version of Halo called Halo: Custom Edition (CE) to play any new MAP files.

I think that's about it, if you have any questions just ask.

They aren't really too hard to figure them out...

But I'll give you a quick tutorial;

-Back up maps I can not stress how important this is.
*To back them up simply copy your map folder (named MAPS in Halo directory) and paste it somewhere else.

-Open up a map in HMT

-Scroll down to [Weap]Weapon

-Select the Pistol

-On the right side there is a little drop down box that says Projectile, select 0.
You'll be able to modify the projectile of it there

-Increase the Max and Min ROF's

-Set ammo per shot to 0
Click Save

Open up the map you just modded.

Use the pistol

Then your in the wrong part of the forum. These boards are for HEK (Halo Editing Kit) and Halo:CE (This is not to be confused with Halo:Combat Evolved)

So you want to mod Zogog, w/ xbox halo? perfect program....

"Halo Cache Editor"

Runs straight off the xbox
you can run it via modchip or your favorite exploit (dont forget to sign)

I'm not sure if its in the files.halomods.com Utilities section

I know for sure its at the "Usual Places" (Xbins)

Have fun modding!
