3DSMax' snap feature troubles...

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

3DSMax' snap feature troubles...

Post by Lazer »

With the mapping experience I have (tons of doom and half-life mapping plus ut2k4 and some other games) I know that maps are made with multiples of 8 units in mind. I've been trying to get my snap to grid function working in max so I can build in a more bsp style for geometry and keep everything in correct size but here's where I run into trouble. When I turn on the "snap toggle" no matter what view port I use the snap always throws the vertex back to one of the axis'. How do I make it so that it doesn't move on the axis I'm not changing? (for example, if a vertex is 32 units on the Z, and I'm messing with the X and Y it shouldn't put the Z back to 0 whenever I move it.) What's going on here?

You probably got your snap in 3, try switching up to 2.5. Also how is your snaps snappin? to vertex? edge?

I find snap to vertex with 2.5 the best snap... its SNAPPY!!!
