I am looking for some advice.

Post by bcnipod »

I am re-skinning the outer surface of the Halo Ring. I am trying to make it look like it is really old, wore and somewhat corroded. I have so far made what I think looks pretty decent, the one problem I have been having is that I cannot get it to look like it has depth. It looks like it has some depth in Photoshop, but whenever i go and try to put it in Halo it looks flat. Can anyone recommend something that I could do to make this look like it has some sort of depth to it?

here is a pic of the skin in photoshop:

here it is in Halo:

You can't making anything look like it "has depth" when the camera's constantly moving around it. You're trying to give a 3d look through a 2d medium, which will 99% of the time look bad. It'll turn out worse when all that's done to it is a Photoshop filter.

depth in PS? like a fake bump? use these settings...

go to filter > render > lighting effects...
then make it look like this..

dont mind the "default1" name.. its simply what i named it when i saved it.
