Halo mac modding programs.

Post by GreenKid »

I just need to make a simple mod that involves exploding banshees, more weapons around the bases and a few teleporters.

My resources are: Halo PC, Halo Mac, A iMac laptop, A dell PC, PC sparkedit, PC HMT3.5, PC sparkify patches, PC ppf o-matic. I have virtually NO modding applications on my mac. What do you suggest doing to make a mac mod?

Standard mac modding tools are in the beginners kit here. The file download is called Modding Apps. Should include:
Halo Modding Tools 0.5: really only good for rebuilding using the HMTv3.5 method.
HMT (0.7.5): good for decrapping models since it allows you to save the inds and verts and then reimport them, bitmap inject/extract using either .dds or more normal image formats but with loss of quality, meta swapping and dependency swapping. Note: decrapping models, and injecting of bitmaps will cause the program to crash if it injected the data correctly. If it doesn't crash then most likely something didn't work.
PPF-O-Matic: apply .ppf patches
PPF-Master: apply and make .ppf patches. Note: if it fails to build a patch, try moving the app to the desktop.
HexEditor: just a simple hexeditor
Converted Map Patch: an old program that uses special patches which contain data for UI.map, Bitmaps.map and a mapfile. It basically exists for converted CE maps.
OBJConverter: small program that will create a .obj file from mod2 metas. Once you've edited the obj file, it will create a new mod2 from that model which you can then inject back into your map. This allows for the creation of new models and not just remodels.
Halo Hacking Kit (0.1, 2 and waffle): the two that aren't using a waffle icon are betas that to my knowledge don't do much. The waffle icon one loads a mapfile into RAM by metas allowing for quick and simple tag importation. Rebuilding is incredibly simple using this program. Also allows for meta swapping and dependency swapping but the interface is a bit annoying to deal with.
Tutorials.doc: a compilation of tutorials for getting started with the above listed apps.

The other programs for use:
C#MT (public and private versions): a rebuilder that can be gotten on the same post as the package listed above. Will only work if you install a pair of frameworks into your harddrive that are hard to find since they keep disappearing off the hosted websites. Also will only work on PPC based macs not intel ones. Basically, it's a properly working rebuilder that can be used to convert CE maps to mac/PC but requires some patience and using tutorials that are very difficult to understand.

Sparkedit available here. Similar to the PC version, but doesn't allow for the duplication of spawn points. Merely moving of them. Two different downloads, one for PPC and one for intel.

Eschaton 0.6 available here. HMT:mac doesn't actually have any meta editing capabilities. This program does and has some more editing options than HMTv3.5 for example can display colors as actual editable colors rather than sets of floats. Also has access to nested reflexives which HMTv3.5 doesn't support. Includes a somewhat limited spawn point editor.

The semi-equivalent of the sparkify patches/HMC for mac is Demo Hack available here. The sparkify patches should work the same on Halo demo to Halo:mac as Halo trial to Halo:PC. Demo Hack includes updated info on magic, offsets and mapsize so can be used to rebuild demo maps.

Sparkedit supposedly works for demo. If you find it doesn't work, and have made sure you have a bitmaps.map file in the same folder as your target mapfile then you can use demo hack to make it work.

Quick tutorial on using mac apps that don't work on demo maps:
Open Demo Hack.
Press the "Load Map" button and select your target map (bloodgulch.map, b30.map and ui.map, sounds and bitmaps should NOT be converted as they aren't normal mapfiles).
Press the "To Full" button.
The map should now be readable by programs like HMT and HHK and finnicky SparkEdit.
Once you're done editing do the same as before but press the "To Demo" button.

(not necessary for Eschaton)

If the program has a save option use it.
Sparkedit and HHK require you to save.
HMT and Eschaton make edits to the mapfile immediately.
