Finished the bolt handle. At this point, I would be satisfied calling it done, but I'll likely go back and add some other details.

Well, i had my try at skinning my custom mac11 model. Thanks to Cooldude for the mapping (I intend to learn myself this week).
I attempted to make it look very used, battle worn. It came out pretty decent. Still, i have to add engravings and screws, and fix a couple of minor lighting issues.

This is halo related, just fyi. You guys just don't know the details yet
Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D
I've seen (surprisingly) larger silencers for macs, but the explanation behind this is that silencers of this type are liquid filled. The R.O.F. of a mac11 in .380 cal is 1600 rpm. With ~26 rounds/ second (in full auto) passing through the silencer at that rate, the liquid needs to stay cool in order to Suppress sound, so yes, bigger is better, but that's why.GametagAeonFlux wrote:Neat, but the silencer seems a bit big...although it may be normal for that gun I guess.

yeah, it's pretty common knowledge that it doesn't really silence, it suppresses sound. the correct term is "D.R.D." (decible reduction device), or sound suppressor.
glad you guys like the skin. but why would you want to see a clay render after all that???

790 polies. how many polies do you expect for a gun that is, for the most part, 2 boxes and 2 cylinders? adding another 500 polies would not make sense, unless I were to add every last detail, screws, bolts and all.llamaboy772 wrote:It's too low poly, I know thats what you were going for but 1,000 or however much it was is too low for a good model. It still looks good i'm just saying adding an extra 500 polys to that thing wouldn't hurt it would only improve.
the number of polies is not the only aspect of a good weapon model. when in reference to poly count, it should be of appropriate number for the weapon, which mine is. you have much to learn about good modeling, and how to dictate to someone what a model needs for improvement.
