skinning questions

Well, I tried following the tutorials on skinning on the main page, but I am still pretty new to the Halo modding scene and I dont completely understand them. I have been looking all over the forums for another tutorial on skinning (preferrably warthogs) but I have found nothing. I have been searching for almost an hour now. I was just wondering if there were any more tutorials on this site for skinning. Would there happen to be another site with tutorials? I was looking in the links section but it seems as if the sites that are supposed to have tutorials are closed. Thanks for taking the time to read this...

ok what ya need is hmtv3/an ftp program/photoshop v7/dds plugin(in files)
put plugin into photoshops plugins
second of all ftp say bloodgulch(cache003)
then open that in hmt3
go to bitmaps and look for the vehicle/warthog bitmap
extract that in2 some file, then open with adove v7
make adjustments...save as what it is if its a dxt1 choose dxt1
then with hmt3 go to warthog bitmaps and import that "skin" over the original warthogs

ok i need help with a skiing\ import back to the game

ok i have everything i need to edit the game and i have my skins all done and imported back into the oh! let's say (bloodgulch) level and here is how i did all this just so you guy's can tell me what i am doing wrong.

1st.
i get the level of my xbox --->bloodgulch.map
2nd.
i load it in sparkedit (file)--(open compressed file)---(bloodgulch.map)
3rd.
(after a a bit it will say file sucsesfuly decompressed) ok!
4th.
i can see the level in the viewport in 3d. ok!
5th.
i go to save map as compressed. ok!
6th.
save as (bloodgulch.map) ok! but!......here is were i get lost why dose it name it (cache.tmp) and end up in the sparkedit folder? and not what i named it above (bloodgulch.map)?

so i did this i took that cache.tmp and renamed it to bloodgulch.map
then loaded it in hmt3 and it was working ok from there . untill i tryed to inject my new textures to the warthog and cyborg.

the texture you are trying to import is smaller then the existing data hmt will automatically uptade the size speficied in the file to match that of the image being injected.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
it did that on all my textures i was injecting.
when i use hmt3 to rebuild the map after i have injected my new skins
i get a 36meg bloodgulch. instead of a 22meg bloodgulch.map
and my xbox will give me an error saying eather the disc is bad or dirty message when i load bloodgulch up in multiplayer mode on halo.


what am i doing wrong ?

well to be honest i didn't read everything you wrote but one things for sure you cannot re-build on xbox...yet

all i want to do is import my own skins and use them in halo for the box.
i don't want to make levels. so your saying that i am wasting my time editing the skins and put them back in the game and it will not work?
