Custom Ghost Bumps for Halo 2

Post by theycallmechad »

New Ghost bump. Yes, they are "bumps." Keep in mind that the Ghost shell doesn't support very prominant bumps to begin with, and that I'm still a beginner at this.

Take note that the purple glare doesn't effect the lines on the shell in any way. that's the bump.

New bumps:

Excuse the skin as there is nothign special about it. I merely changed the color to show the bump better.

I'll do more of these, which means I'll get better.

Okay, another one added, this time with a skull bump.

I'll take a high res tomorrow... I have too much studying for finals yet to do. also, I applied a 256x256 bump over the ghost instead of tue standard 512x512 bump so the bumps look too pixelated as it is. I'll fix it in the morning and snap a high-res pic for you.

EDIT: The only problem with bumpmatting now, DWells, is that It's going to take me FOREVER now to finish a level skin! :D

Double, if not more, as much work. But think of the end result.... A stone wall with bumpmapped individual stones.... etc....

I don't know what theycallmechad used but I can Point you to some tool(s) that will make Bumpmaps...
INSANEdrive wrote:]http://www.ati.com/developer/tools.html (Normal Mapper and Normal Mapper UI): ATI's program for creating normal maps from high and low resolution input meshes (exported from Maya or Max via the included .NMF plugins). ... I Hope this helps 8) ( I bet Some People here didn't even know ATI Had this stuff)

Thanks, but no clapping for me. I didn't develop this, although I've been trying to figure it out for a long time. I had a conversation with Kornkidcrazy last night and from that I learned how to extract a bumpmat correctly. I started falling asleep by about that time, and had to figure out how to inject them myself (yes, Korn, I forgot almost everything you said after a certain point... I was falling asleep and my pocket PC doesn't save my MSN conversations ). Anyway, I'm just showing a bit of what's to come. I hope to do a full-fledged skin with some custom bumpmats as soon as finals finish.

Again, all I did was figure out how to inject them again and how to edit a bumpmat. It's a little different editing them than just skinning a texture... it's sure not easier!

Programs used: Darkmatter, Insolance, Dothalo, Photoshop 7.5

Thanks Korn!

And Insane, I want to get better in the sense that the bumps actually look like bumps and not just like different surfaces. I want to make it so when I change the bumps on a brick wall, it actually conforms with the shapes of the bricks for instance. Although this bump looks cool, it's not a "practical" bump like I will do in the future.
