Ecstastic about forestgulch mod but...(compatibility quest.)

Post by kaboris »

Allow me to explain my situation. I currently reside in Japan
and own a Japanse version of Halo. Naturally the audio was localized into Japanese for domestic consumption.

When I downloaded the LibraryMod a while back the audio was totally out of wack. Everything was totallly muffled and everytime I shot of a round with the pistol it let off a ear-drum piercing metallic-like sound. When I deleted the file the problem went away. I remeber there being a audio file for the nuke. I was wondering if this created a compatibility problem between the English and Japanese versions. Forest Gulch doesnt have such a file so I imagine that the sound would be unaffected this time round.

I am a little apprehensive about trying this new mod out. I was a slight pain to resolve the audio problem once it got infected. TT

Anybody out there who can explain the source of the problem? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ordinaily, that would be a problem with the sounds.map file (I'm sure it's similarly named in Japanese), because that holds all the sound files...

but your predicament is very different... I suspect that the mod was incompatible with the Japanese, and it somehow corrupted the UI (possibly affecting the volume) or sounds...

Im sure that since it's in Japanese, the audio lengths are different because Japanese people speak a lot differently then we do. The sound files could be longer or shorter and the sounds would have to be the exact length as the ones on the mod otherwise its like stretching the sound and making it sound loud and irritating or really deep and stupid. Soo yeah, maybe using English sounds isnt going to work for you.
If you'r in a hurry, you shoulda started sooner.

hmmm... but are the offsets, meta and whatnot the same in the Japanese map files? try using the tutorial called "Halo editing 101", and see if it works... if so, then modding Halo wont be so difficult for you... if not (after several tries), then well, I dont think there's much we can do for you... I know it would be possible somehow to use some offset extractor, and you could start from there...
