Skinning Ghosts....

Iv'e been making skins for some stuff that I'm soon to put up here, but while doing the ghost, I noticed, even though i colored parts dark red, it still came out purple, with little highlights, you can only see a tiny bit of the red at an angle. What do I do to get around this?
