WIP well, no longer a base, because of polygon limitations

Post by master_wolf »

well here is my very newbish base. (actually, its only the first building) it connects the actual base with a bridge. please don't flame me! i just started modeling not long ago. (also i dont have 3dsmax so i cant render-using gmax)

heh, no, i've been modeling for four months now. i improved so much

Forgive my noobishness, but how do you get the nice curved corners of the tunnels??

looking good. You need some killer original textures

you know how you make like a box and invert it for a tunnel? we'll lets just say you make a more complicated box.

like this base i made here

well thats how how i do it to make a tunnel. just invert a box and weld it to a hole in another (for VERY simple ones). for more complicated ones i make a frame of vertices and connect them with polygons.

I guess we all do it different.

heh i kinda do it gamble's way, i'll just make a box, flip the faces, and then just work some vertex magic

dude, how do you invert? i'm putting myself through hell to make some shitty tunnels. PErsonally i think my map is crap. I don't know shit about 3dsmax. BUT i'm taking a class so hopefully i can make something in the near future that rivals plethora(my mind is saying yeah right, good luck loser)

anyways, I always made tunnels by cutting away the faces of a box to make doorways, openeings, and connecting boxes for tunnels. I mean, look at plethora he's got a killer tunnal system, how'd he do it, and gamble, your tunnels and doorways look nice and professional.... i wish someone would expand on the max tutorials and show us how to do this stuff.

Ook, i'm done ranting

peace

actually, i learned most of it myself. i only watched 4 tutorials. but not the ones that showme how to make tunnels etc.
and now: the entrance building to the main base is finished.

here it is! the entrance building to the base is complete!

so, how is it now? i think its much imrpoved from the first pictures.

also, i can use some suggestions for the exterior design (the area where the MC is) i might add on to it if i get some suggestions. it looks kinda plain. otherwise, it will stay like that

damn, i just realized i wasn't doing every polygon with triangles. no i have to delete the faces once again, and replace them with triangular polygons....

Nice, but it would be better if we actually saw the map with it. The base is nice and all, but you would rather eat the entire cookie rather than the chocolate chip... if you know what I mean.
