hey dispraiser,
I like optimizing my work, it helps a lot since game engines can handle it.
and I have uninstalled Halo, thats how I feel about bungi/microsoft, they are pathetic, real nice SDK they gave us too. Almost complete control of hte game, the engine probalby sucks becuase its out dated but everybody that plays it doesnt notice it... they aren't spending anyhting on Halo, they just want to keep the anem running thrugh the world as the most popular game, but theres new games hitting the shelves, but Halo was an exciting game to play as a pasttime on my xbox, tey made the mistake of releasing Halo to PC, they should ahve waitied for Halo 2 and ten did thta, but they know that the sales on the PC are going to be low, its as simple as that. So for now you can call me a n00b if you want, but I don't really see the point in me learning howto use the SDK, Im just getting fed up with some major copanies today... Well thats my opinion on things, and the glock is way to boxy, use Reference picuters, if you are then you stillhave quite a ways to go...

First off it really f*cks up your meshes, and then when you render you get overlapped meshes, or it just messes up your model and irreverisble once its been completed and saved. I advise using cut/de-extrude. In my opinion that works the best by far. But if you choose to use boolean then keep going with ti, but its a very "unstable" tool to be using unless you are extremely good with it and use it very little where there aren't many indices surrounding it. So jsut a tip of advice its pretty nice for 7k, you could probably knock it down about 3k polys and try to make it low 4k to high 3k but thats meDO NOT USE BOOLEANS

Yeah, if there was just a way that we could censor the forums, so that if you want to join you have to present a substantially good model/skin/mod, it could be done but it would be very time consuming and it would take up a lot of space on the mod/admins comp and there could always be the possiblity of viruses.....Dispraiser wrote:I started with Gmax too, about a year ago. I can blame it for my introduction to modeling, and from what I can tell, yours also. It also introduced the idea that anyone who can make a box with a hole in it is a modeler and anyone who can make a plane is a mapper.

I boolean frequently and yes, booleaning does do that to your meshes but usually, if it messes up, i just create the faces myself, since it already created the vertices and hole.oldfaQ wrote:hey dispraiser,First off it really f*cks up your meshes, and then when you render you get overlapped meshes, or it just messes up your model and irreverisble once its been completed and saved. I used only two booleans in that M4. The first was to make all of those grooves in the grip. Actually, several booleans made that piece that I booleaned out. First, I made a cylinder smaller than the gripw tihout the grooves, and 12-14 boxes lined up to be my new grooves. Then, I made two new Axial boxes and broke the future grooves into four pieces each, so they had slots through them. Then, I booleaned out the cylinder, so they were all perfect for the job. Theo ther was a box to make the place where the clip goes in... I've only had a few problems with boolean, really. most of the tme I can solve it with some simple face reconstruction. Form my experience, it at least gets the vertexes in the right place
yes,
but you can avoid all of that with just cutting/extruding. It works much better and keeps lowerpoly counts and cleaner meshes. That's why you model is so high poly, its the booleans. I will not use booleans. I use to and that was a mistake, but it's always good to learn howto use the tool

No, the reason it's so high poly is because I left so many scrap polygons around that I was too lazy to clean up. For example, each of the pits on the grip isthree polygons deep, a tremendous waste that some welding could clean up easily. There are many other parts like that which have polygons that I don't care to delete because I made the gun for no purpose.

Speak for yourself. Halo is still, in my opinion, one of the greatest games of all time. And there is nothing wrong with Bungie. Blame M$, they were in such a hurry to release Halo (and make more money) that they rushed it out, subsequently cutting out several weapons, Covenant races, and vehicles. I would never uninstall Halo in protest (in fact not for any reason at all). That would just suck.oldfaQ wrote:hey dispraiser,First off it really f*cks up your meshes, and then when you render you get overlapped meshes, or it just messes up your model and irreverisble once its been completed and saved.
