I would assume that very few white people died to free black people. In fact, technically speaking, not a single white person died during the civil war to free black people. That was never the initial goal of the war, the war's main goal was always to preserve the union. That was added later on, an "added bonus". Kinda like the prize at the bottomn of a cereal box. Whether it was the intention or not people did fight for the end of slavery, as well as it did spark slavery ending worldwide.DeadHamster wrote:I would assume that very few white people died to free black people. I don't care about their past. If they are personally effected by what happened to their ancestors, they're being absurd.
I have nothing against people who are different colored skin, but what gets me is some people think it's OK to treat white people like we owe them something for what happened to their race so long ago... not even to them personally.
I also hate the attitude "white people can reach the top, but blacks people belong in the ghetto". There's white people living in low class, it doesn't pertain to one race. Children might be raised like that because their parents fucked up, and some may be raised with the mentality that most white people are the only ones who can succeed because society is racist. So they go to school with this poor attitude, and just don't care. In return, they keep their life in a straight line going nowhere.
Yes, there still might be organizations that are against other racists (skinheads as a prime example), but their actions don't speak for a whole race.
We owe them nothing, and as I said, if they feel offended about the actions about what my white ancestors did to their black ancestors, that's their problem; they will just have to find a way to deal with it.
All in all, this topic has been discussed a lot, and I've never seen any good come out of them.

Okay, this is my second time typing this, so it won't be as good. Accidentally Ctrl-W'd this tab =( Ctrl-Shift-T. It'll keep your text. Assuming you're on Firefox.
However this all depends on if this is a highschool or a college/university. Pretty much any post-secondary school would get in trouble for prohibiting that (to a point).
If Viking Slavery led to World War I, it would be taught. It would be a big deal. It didn't, it's not. Everyone had slaves. But it didn't always lead to one of the most pivotal points in their country's history. If it did, I guarantee you that it's taught in their history classes, and a lot. Which brings me to this:there was only one chapter that i can think of about slavs being slaved by vikings or something like that
Slavery in the US led directly to the Civil War. Period. History textbooks have had an ongoing movement in the last decade or so to clarify that it wasn't the only thing that led to it, and it isn't the only reason. But it is the main reason, and without it, there would be no civil war.when really the main reason that the civil war and the division of the nation occured was because of taxes
This is weird to me. Because of two things. The confederacy itself swaggered between the slavery being "the cornerstone of the Confederacy," to the war being about states' rights (although it being the justification for slavery anyway). Obviously the connection between slavery and the Confederacy is undeniable. And I don't think I have to explain that 1860's slavery was a racist institution. However, I live in Texas, and it's obvious to me at least from experience that most people (again, in my experience at least), don't see it as racist, or really even a symbol of the Confederacy per se. Just as a symbol of the South and states rights and all that stuff. However free speech in school is a touchy subject, and while I would totally be for it if you asked me 3 years ago, I think I'm a bit wiser now and think it's far more complicated. Just because some people consider it nonracist, doesn't mean everyone does (obviously). Not allowing it avoids conflict for the most part, and that's what matters considering schools are a place for education primarily, not expressing yourself.and also in my school the confederate flag isnt allowed to be displayed due to it being "racially offensive"

I hate when Black people or any other race for that matters blames other people because "they cant rise up", I would love for them to go to another country and live in their "ghettos" people bitch so damn much but they just dont realize how good they really have it. So every time a black friend of mine says man I hate this country, I can't do shit without the man fuckin it up, I tell him straight up well go to africa my friend and see how good you can make it over there. Usually that ends the discussion.
I have a mixed view on this.
From my experience, black people in America do a lot of things that are terribly wrong. Example would be the notorious N word usage. I dont use this word, nor will I ever find myself using it in such an ignorant way. They preach that the white people cant use the word because it summons up bad past, why should they? In places outside of the US, at least in my origins (the Caribbean) the N word is never used in such a fashion. But there is always two sides to the coin, remember. One thing ive never understood about the white people ive been exposed to is: Holding on to the old ways. An example of this is when i was walking with my girlfriend and comments about " betraying race" being thrown, even though we have the same racial backgrounds....... Basically what ive seen is black do alot of stuff that they shouldnt get away with, but white has contributed to the problem as well. One thing that people need to realize is this : There will ALWAYS be a person who discriminates against an other group, and they need to let go of it when they assert their ignorance. I will end this post with a quote from H.I.M. Haile Selassie I:
"That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained."

Actually.. I Have long "hippie hair" a beard and a mustache. I find it very difficult to find jobs as ppl are highly prejudice against my looks.bcnipod wrote:Judging someone by their skin colour/tone is just as ridiculous as judging someone by their hair style/colour. You don't see people going around hating other people with blonde hair or brown hair, so why should you hate people with a dark skin tone?
Don't be.

The blacks in Britain are really great people. But last year when I went to America the attitude of them were much different. I don't know if that is because of the way that they are treated there but I didn't like there attitude at all. I almost got into a fight with a few of them actually. I don't know the situation though. I don't know what to believe either.
I also don't really know if this discussion is really very appropriate.

It's only appropriate until someone over-emotional about their point comes into the topic.THE-MASTER wrote:I also don't really know if this discussion is really very appropriate.

I really hate it when people judge an entire race in a country from a bad experience with a few individuals.THE-MASTER wrote:The blacks in Britain are really great people.
