It would seem you're basing this on your personal opinions of us, not how well we handle things.

Also, when did this discussion turn to moderators? The rank titles is what this thread is about.

What personal opinion... I said I really can't question how well you will handle the job.

But yes, back to the ranks. Look. I don't care anymore... it's pretty obvious you guys aren't going to change it so I'll just leave it alone. This new system will be old in a week or two anyway... and you guys will be right back to square 1. If you're going to change or add something... make it worthwhile.

Please expand upon that. We're not enforcing the rules well enough?
Well seeing as you've been a moderator for a few days... I really can't question how well you will handle it. But I do know someone who'd make a better moderator than all of you combined... and I think you know who I'm talking about. He could hold the place down by himself.
By holding down the place, do you mean perm banning anyone who makes the slightest mistake?

And I'm still interested in who you wanted to be a mod/admin...

He was obviously referring to me...I would make the best admin ever...I'd even have to make a new rank (Masterchief of course) just to compensate ;)

To put this back on the rank names...After having them around for a few days it's made me go by the colour instead of the avatar and rank name...Which seems to be the main complaint/solution...And if that is what people are doing to know who's who, to me, it clearly shows that the new style isn't working as people have to go back to the old to understand the new...What happens to the new users? They may have no clue about either one so they don't know who to report to if there is trouble.
I don't really think it was the koolest thing to do, only because this is a halomodding forum. The names only barely appear in halo/halo2 and make an even smaller association with halomodding

The best (IMO) and probably the most used symbols to show rank would be the difficulty setting icons...the swords, shield and skull.. The names with them can't be used for obvious reasons (We can't have ketchup_bomb with a rank title as "normal" thats just not right ;)). Unfortunatly I can't think of any names for them at this current time...The best I've got is supervisor, premier and president... Although these kinda contradict my previous argument about being to do with halomodding, but at least more people would understand them (IMO).

ScottyGEE is Easy. ;)

Honestly I could care less about avatars, I could care less about the colors and I could care less about the text under peoples names as long as the job gets done.

haha...Kirk should be Legendary of course :D
But that is my argument...That this doesn't really get the job done well. But I guess the names down the bottom of the page make it clear enough for people who don't go by colour...And the people who have completly ignored this thread...

Then how do you propose on doing it, Excal? Instead of constantly criticizing us, why don't you give us some actual suggestions.

How would you run the site? You seem to have plenty of ideas on how it should be done but all you do is say we do it wrong. Installing new mods on is not an example.

There is no setting in Halo for nooberiffic.

So I will just have to settle for Heroic. Because, well, I guess I am Ombre's hero.

I agree with ScottyGEE. The names of ranks should have to do with the forum or Halo modding, not the the Human military form the Halo series.

This doesn't have anything to do with running the site... its about the rank system. And I'd just go back to the original rank system... and give moderators the power to remove sigs and edit profiles. Ofcourse there'd be a small checks and balances system in place just to make sure people don't abuse their power... but then again, it's not like you're actually going to take any of my suggestions... so I'll stop now.

Editing profiles is questionable, but I do feel we should be able to edit user signatures. Sure, the majority of sig reports are things like "Too many lines of text" or "Signature is 150 pixels tall," but there is the occasionaly person with the multiple huge signature images, and it does get pretty bad if it's not handled in a timely fashion. I don't see any real harm that could come of moderators having the ability to edit signatures, it would only be handled when there is a report.

Well, I think for us to be able to edit signatures, we have to be able to edit profiles, since the signature is part of the profile.

Please note, I am no expert on phpBB and how it calls to template files.

On the contrary, listed under phpBB's templates, there is a profile_add_body.tpl. This is a template file, which is called when you edit a user profile. The code for the signature is as follows:

Code: Select all

	  <td class="row1"><span class="gen">{L_SIGNATURE}:</span><br /><span class="gensmall">{L_SIGNATURE_EXPLAIN}<br /><br />{HTML_STATUS}<br />{BBCODE_STATUS}<br />{SMILIES_STATUS}</span></td>
	  <td class="row2">
		<textarea name="signature" style="width: 300px" rows="6" cols="30" class="post">{SIGNATURE}</textarea>
	  </td>
So, in theory, you could create a new php file, and make it call "{SIGNATURE}" (Which, I'm pretty sure, is part of a language file, which would read the signature from the database, and place it in the textbox) as the content for the textbox, and have it use the same function profile_add_body.tpl uses to write the new data to the database.

Kirk usually gets to sigs pretty quick once they have been reported.
I don't think we need change anything concerning our abilities to not edit profiles (signatures).

I personally like the new system. It is pretty easy to understand..
But, if people really don't like it, which is somewhat beginning to be the case, I am up for going back to olde skool, or even going with ScottyGEE and coming up with more Halo Halo oriented names.

But I would rather something to do with Halo than just Moderator, Junior Admin, and Admin. ._.
