Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

Gmax and Rhino3d modeling

Post by venomai »

(for modeling and map creation)

Can GMax be good for modeling? Or just editing of already created models?

And has anyone tried Rhino3D for modeling?

I'll probably shoot for 3D studios max 6 but i wann have a backup plan, i mean it costs $3,500 US

gmax and 3ds max are very similar, try out gmax, and if it seems to really spark your interest, eventually go to 3ds max

learn on gmax, when u feel comfortable get the trial for 3d max that way ur not wasting the 30 days learning the basics. as for rhino no u cant use it and u probably wouldnt want to, rhino is a nurb based program, this is over simplifying it alot but basically every with curves, maybe for some great hills and such but not for an entire map no.

3ducation.com if u dont have dial up, its a demanding site. ummm theres like 100 beginners tuts up for 3ds and theres gonna be an update soon of like 400 total before some other programs start getting more tuts but in coming months there should be double that in 3ds tuts, also forums if u have questions. but other than that just google there are a ton.

kazaa is one option, or downloading the trial and then getting a crack and auth code to make it perm (make sure you read the crack's readme b4 actually installing 3ds trial...). It is pretty pricey, i mean, 3,500 in US ca-ching when you could have something like Gmax (very similar) for free? Silly, if you ask me..

But i'd recommend downloading the trial at least, you can get it in the products section of discreet.com

We don't want to make discreet go out of buisness though
