Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

3dsmax problems

Post by clappro33 »

ive been using 3ds max for a few weeks now but it just recently started closing on me at random times... I just downloaded sp1 and it still closes. Sometimes it closes within the first minute of use and sometimes it wont close for an hour. Does anyone have any idea why this is closing so much?

To define closing: the program freezes for a few moments and then the 3ds error box comes up asking if i would like to report this.

:(

EDIT: It only closes when i turn the viewing angle, if i never move anything, like just touch modifiers, then its ok, but thats kinda hard not to do... But of corse, not always when i change the view.

yeah, that happens alot. Thats why you save often. I think it has to do with something you did wrong or having too many processes.

errr.... sometimes it slows for me when i have like 15 textures and like a whole bunch of polygons going at the same time due to mesh smooth.

how big is the thing your modeling?

you need a high end machine to run max properly

u still shouldnt have trouble with 20,000 polys, ive done hundreds of thousands without much trouble and rendered in 2 millions and my processor is just a 2.6p4c and actually the 2million rendering was on a 2 ghz p4 so its not ur processor, it may be your video card considering that its only when u move it but still seems iffy, try what ollie said, check how many processes u are running. Try totally deleting 3d max and installing again tends to help usually. If you got it from discreets site or actually purchased it then u shouldnt have any trouble with it with that comp.
