gun in progress

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

boxy, bland, like the starts of all models, the general shape is good but needs some smoothing in areas, i like it

For the main body of the gun did you just draw it out of vertices create faces and extrude it? Cuz that's what it looks like. I'm only asking because I'm curious it's probably better than anything I could do..

most people dont create primitives and convert them to editable polies or meshes for firearms. It is much faster (and better looking) if you line draw and extrude it, then make changes to that.

I do.

The gun you see below was composed entirely of boxes, cylinders and tubes with a bunch of booleaning and chamfering.

The Colt M4. I don't think his spline gun or any of the obviously spline ones in this community have been better than that. I mean, that Colt isn't even a spectacular model, but it's a hell of a lot better than many of the guns I see here.

Also, the original poster in this topic. You got unlucky. Your gun is a lot better than most I see here, honestly, even though there is still a TON of work to be done. Don't see this post as aimed at you.

On a detached and censored note, this community is dead. There are a ton of members, but it's already dead.

EDIT: Forgot, there was one spline in that gun... The tiny little curved piece of metal under the front iron sight that holds the first part of the strap was composed of a renderable spline.

Why doesn't everyone notice it? No one here is willing to say the obvious... EVERYONE IN THIS COMMUNITY IS A NEWBIE! And only half of you speak decent english.

Everyone but the n00bs notice this, they think, if they dont point it out, there will be no reason to get yelled/flamed at.

Yeah, I had this really long post about the state of these forums typed out, but censored it because I didn't feel like getting flamed. I blame Gmax for this newbie revolution.

Dont be blaming it on Gmax, alot of people use it, including me, its the next best(Free) thing compared to 3dsmax.

I started with Gmax too, about a year ago. I can blame it for my introduction to modeling, and from what I can tell, yours also. It also introduced the idea that anyone who can make a box with a hole in it is a modeler and anyone who can make a plane is a mapper.

That is a very nice m4 model, that must have taken a long time.

Actually, surprisingly low ammount of time. I probably spent six or seven hours working on it, spread out over a week.
