modding for a noob! help please!

Post by Rcb »

Hi, i'm new to the world of Xbox halo modding ( used to mod Counter strike back in the day  ) and I was wondering how do I get one of the mods, say from these boards, like the blood gulch at night time, and put it onto my xbox? When I tried to just copy it and replace the default bloodgulch.map on my xbox's HDD it did absolutely nothing. Any help is really appreciated as I have been trying for a couple of weeks now !

Thanks a lot !

PS - I know there has already been a lot of topics like this started before, but I can't find an answer for my noobness :P

on the x y or z drive on the xbox is a cache00x.map

those are the ones that have to be replaced for halo
the ones on the harddrive are compressed

whenever you play 3 other games and then halo again, a brief loading screen will appear and then you will need to enter into a game at bg. This will make cache003.map the bg file which is editable.

i would type more but there are plenty of tutorials on this

But no tuts..anyone?

I mean tuts on actually installing the mods onto your Xbox, not anything else.

Well if lets say I wanted to apply some ppf to Blood Gulch. This is what you do:

1) FTP to your xbox and delete all the files in the X Y or Z drive that has the cache000 to cache005.map files
2) Load halo and launch a game at Blood Gulch
3) FTP to your Xbox and look in the X Y or Z drive for the one with the files cache000.map through cache005.map
4) The Cache files are like this
0 and 1 - Single Player Maps
2 - UI
3-5 - Multiplayer Maps

So transfer Cache003.map (the first mp one) to your computer. You can now open this in SparkEdit, HMT, edit with a hex editor, etc...

6) To apply a PPF download PPF-O-Matic and open the program. In the PPF File box choose the .ppf file you want to patch with and in the ISO File box choose Cache003.map and apply.
7) FTP back to your xbox and overwrite cache003 with the patched one
8 ) Run the map in Halo and the mods would work

me too

guys, come on - i figured this all out myself when i was a noob

if i needed help it was on something that didnt involve the basic tutorials here and on xbox-scene

if any of you mods see this, maybe you could make a new forum for noobs who need help along with a stickie of a basic tut

Ok I myself havent ever seen a tutorial on modding cache files so just follow the other guys instructions you can also use HHHT instead of ppf-o-matic makes it easier for injecting multiple ppf's
