Video Settings

Post by Tyriko »

Hi, i use a...

GeForce FX 5200 128MB

and to get the game to run pretty smooth i have to take decals, shadows off and put textures to Low and Medium, on UT i can have everything on really high, but on Halo its mainly when i put the Resolution up it just goes dead slow, i have FPS on 30 and Refresh rate on 60 should i change them to anything. I read a post similar to this and sumone said its cause your Graphics Card doesnt support DirectX 9.0 but mine does.

does anyone know whats wrong, alos could you tell me your graphics card and the video settings you have.

Thanks

it goes dead slow because its a bad video card. You arnt going to be able to do much to it to make it run faster except turn down more settings, at very high on UT go into your console and type in either stat fps or just fps sorry forgot exactly because im sure ur getting at max 20 fps in it because that card was not made for high settings, it was made (and does) to cheat people that dont know better into thinking its a good card but its not at all.

at very min ull want a 9600pro for new games, never go with the SE version of anything. really what is coming I suggest nothing under a 9800pro if you plan to play any new games like painkiller, farcry, halo, hl2, doom III etc. 9800pro and up ull never have trouble. But a 9600pro and up can play them just not near as well. I have a 9600 pro in my laptop and I can play those games but just can lag if I dont have the right settings set, but my desktop 9800 pro 256-U is jsut incredible I never have to worry about games running slow. And if you want to save up for the new x800 series then thats even better. 9700 and up you start to see 8 pipeline cards which will help with games tremediously and the x800 series starts out at 12 pipline and goes up to 16 with the top cards. If you are looking for nvidia i suggest nothing less then the 5900 and up and really I suggest getting the equal ati instead if you are looking since in most games the ati performs better. Even the new 6800 is not as good (its VERY close) to the x800xt but still cant beat it.

Either get a Radeon9800XT or wait until the X800 comes out.

why not go with a SE version of anything? I used to have a 9100 (piece of sh*t) so know I have a bran new 9600XT works great and I get Steam and Half-Life 2 as soon as it comes out :D . I'd have to save up along time to get anything higher than that.

the se versions are always the worst many times the series under that has at least two better cards for less, and besides u can get a regular version usually 15 dollars more its just a much better deal.
