Wind in Map +Pic

Post by The Ghost »

When browsing through these forums I noticed a lot of people have been having trouble with wind/weather. So I took about an hour this afternoon to look at it, and it's pretty simple. I just added wind, which you will see a picture of the flag blowing while standing still (I think I added too much but all I have to do is lower the velocity).

Same concept as weather particles/fog, so I'll do that next. I can't do that today because of a paper and an exam to study for, but since there have been so many people having problems with this, if I see the demand, I will make a detailed tutorial.

Thank you.

EDIT: Holy crap, yeah I did make the wind too strong, lol. I just threw a grenade and the dust cloud that comes from the explosion just went WHOOOOOOOOOOOSH and really fast blew away. It looks so cool. Ahhhh, windy day on Halo.

Could you explain how to add the wind? I am still very confused!
I like geckos. My friend told me only morons like geckos. Voila! Moron66213 is born.

All right. Update:

The first attempt with my weather portal failed, but this time it worked, and radiosity is running right now. The weather poly is in with no compilation errors (although Sapien gave me a "could not teleport camera into BSP" error). But this means if everything goes well I shall accomplish my goal of having snow in my level.

And obviously a tutorial will follow.

EDIT: Well that didn't work but I got the wind correct, but I learned from my mistakes and I know how to do it now, but I'll have to do it later.

all you do is include a mp wind. then you jack the settings up, and when theere are particles, they get all swept away. this is not hard to do.

Yeah I know and that's why a lot of people can't/don't know how to do it. heh. :)

But well wind is real easy like matp001 said, especially if you're not doing anything else with weather. And if you have a really simple map, you probably did not include any portals in the first place. But with the getting things like fog in a certain place and not having the weather particle go indoors (like the Halo PC mods did -- Siberia, etc.), there's a bit more to it.
