Tool, Guerilla issues & directory structure questions

Post by LiN »

Ok, Here it is, another n00b question on using tool, guerilla etc. :(

I've followed Kirk4's tutorials down to a 't' (I think), but I have problems with compiling the splinter map as follows:

1.) First I couldnt export to JMS - 3ds max 6 crashed. I eventually solved this by editing some dodgy geometry and the file exported successfully. I also exported the splinter model from Kirk4, just to hav a reference as a backup.

2.) I tried to use tool.exe as follows. Navigated to c:\program files\mirosoft games\halo custom edition and typed 'tool.exe bitmaps levels\splinter\bitmaps' as it states in the tutorial. This didnt work. I had an error about the 'file not found' (target bitmaps). It did however work when I moved tool.exe to the data directory where my splinter files were held.

So, to recap, I have models bitmaps etc.. in the following drive: c:\halo\data\levels\test\splinter as asked in the tutorial. Halo CE and Sapiens are installed in c:\program files\mirosoft games\halo custom edition. If I moved tool.exe and its DLL files to c:\halo, the compilation worked - ie it could find the files.

next, we were asked to work on the bitmaps using guerilla. So, I started guerilla (located withother HEK tools) and tried to open each bitmaps from c:\halo\data\levels\test\splinter\bitmaps. Guerilla then had an error about not finding a critical file (not guerilla.cfg, that was there), and informed me I had to change my root directory.

Whats more confusing, is that tool, o something appeared to create a mirror of the directories I was using in c:\halo\data\level etc.. in c:\program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition\data\levels ...

Can someone please clarify this for me? -->

1.) Where should the files I am editing go before using tool? At the moment I have them in c:\halo\data\levels\test\splinter.

2.) Where should I direct tool to operate on? Tool is located in the Halo CE directory, but I am directing it to operate on the files in c:\halo\data\levels\test\splinter. Furthermore, I can only do this if I move tool to c:\halo.

3.) Does tool.exe create duplicate folders in c:\program files\ ... \halo custom edition\data\levels?

4.) If so, should geurilla be directed to work on these new files (in Halo CE dir), or the original ones in c:\halo\

5.) am I being a dumbass, and should the HEK just be installed to c:\halo ???????????????

GODDAMIT!!! @

to get a command prompt that is not a shortcut, go to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\

it should be a few screen lengths down in that file. it will be called cmd.
