GametagAeonFlux wrote:There's a reason it's called a series. The games have enough differences between them to be unique. A passing glance may lead you to believe they're not very similar, but that's akin to saying Halo 1, 2 and 3 have "little difference" because they're all 3D FPS. I mean come on, every game has you fighting the Covenant, and then at some point The Flood. Must be the same, right?
It's pretty close. I'd be willing to admit the Halo series to the group had Bungie decided to make six or seven games.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:...uh...they're sports games. What do you want them to do? They've added plenty of new features since the series' conception, but you're obviously just being ignorant to that fact, jumping on the bandwagon of idiots on the Internet and saying "hurr game are same", so I'll let you go do some research on them before you make anymore baseless, *** remarks.
I watch the games played, and they look rather similar to me. That's what I was basing my judgment on. As for doing research, I'm gonna go ahead and say no...
GametagAeonFlux wrote:Holy **** I stopped reading right there. Are you *** kidding me dude?
I could be.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:You're going to tell me that the differences between Final Fantasy 1 and 12 are comparable to the difference between Megaman games? Every Final Fantasy has had SEVERAL new/unique game mechanics, usually its own unique battle system (or something pertaining to it, such as VII's materia system, VIII's junction system, etc) and of course an original story line/characters. Again, refer to the ending sentence of my last point.
I will admit fault on this one. I have seen a couple of the games and they look drastically different. As for the combat system, I have really no idea. I was basing my argument on the fact that there's been, like, over 20 games related to Final Fantasy. It's my own personal opinion, that the story/"fantaverse" has got to end sometime.
GametagAeonFlux wrote: Fun fact, X-2 also provides somewhat of a link to Final Fantasy VII by way of the character Shinra, who states plenty of times that he wants to extract the planet's energy as a power source, the same way mako is used by the Shinra company in Final Fantasy VII. A director (Yoshinori Kitase) and scenario writer (Kazushige Nojima) have even stated that they "envisioned the events of Final Fantasy X-2 as a prequel to those in Final Fantasy VII".
Ohz I do love the fun facts. No sarcasm.

GametagAeonFlux wrote: Do you know anything about these titles or did you just see that they had "Final Fantasy VII" in them and assumed they were all the same game?
Basically... yeah. I generally think that games with the same name are related to each other, as has been every other single game I've ever played...

GametagAeonFlux wrote: AMAZING HOW IT WORKS FOR ALL GAMES WITH SEQUELS. Check this out.
Yup. The ones admitted to the group are the ones with an excessive amount of titles.
GametagAeonFlux wrote: Same type of gameplay with each game? Holy crap Gears 1 and 2 both focus on a cover system. Check.
Slight graphics quality increase with each release? Hell yeah I can barely tell the difference between Gears 1 and 2. Check there.
Only major difference in game is the number on the title? Holy *** the first Gears didn't even have a number. This is a startling revelation. Check plus.

What a shocker.
I agree. If they decide to release a Gears of War 7, it will be added to my hypothetical group.

GametagAeonFlux wrote:Hurr bandwagon. Just curious, did you ever play Call of Duty 1-5? Call of Duty has changed in all of its iterations fairly significantly. 2 had a class system, 3 had a class system that featured ingame upgrades depending on your score, 4 had a create-a-class system that tracked global progress, and 5 has admittedly copied it, but they've added enough of their own features to it to make it unique, fresh, and enjoyable.
You have successfully countered a statement that I made to sound clever.

GametagAeonFlux wrote:Anyways, to sum it all up. Think before you post stupid **** please.
I'm pretty sure that I'm allowed to post stupid ****...
Hold on, let me go read the rules again... Nope, nothing against it.

"Anyways, to sum it all up," I'm quite happy to see that you calmed down a little near the end. My comment was a stream of consciousness that I really paid little attention to during its conception. I actually went back and read it a few times after I posted just to read what I wrote. I didn't care nor notice any flaws because, well... I was tired... I've been in a state of depression since August... and I didn't really care. Nor did I feel that anyone would go so far as to make a point by point guide through how wrong my post was.
But much kudos for commitment.
I am impressed by your knowledge of final fantasy games... and a little frightened.

Oh, ok. So now it's limited by numbers then? So if I made a game, then re-released it but with a number 2, it'd be ok? Maybe even go for three but add one new weapon. Sounds straight.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:I watch the games played, and they look rather similar to me. That's what I was basing my judgment on. As for doing research, I'm gonna go ahead and say no...
And I assume you see the same thing in every sports game you've watched in real life? There's subtle differences in each game, such as new features in the franchise modes, training your players, scouting and recruiting, play updates, rosters, player rankings, etc etc. Watching a game is not enough to pass judgment on it in the degree you have. I could go watch someone play Halo 1, 2 and 3 and think they look pretty similar other than dual wielding, but we all know that is not the case.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:I could be.
Hurf.

k. So you posted something you have no idea about? I have never played these games, but I have read opinions of them. I think I am qualified to analyze and compare them. Don't think of it as over 20 games related to Final Fantasy, think of it as Square releasing over 20 RPGs with Final Fantasy in the name. It would be no different than if they had given each one its own individual title. There is no connected "story", or "fantaverse" other than the rare exceptions of Final Fantasy X-2 and the Final Fantasy VII pre/sequels.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:Ohz I do love the fun facts. No sarcasm.
I'm chock-full of 'em.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:Basically... yeah. I generally think that games with the same name are related to each other, as has been every other single game I've ever played...
Before Crisis and VII were RPGs. Crisis Core was an action/real time RPG. Dirge of Cerberus was a third person shooter/RPG hybrid. Sorry, but they're really all almost completely different games.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:Yup. The ones admitted to the group are the ones with an excessive amount of titles.
You're completely missing the point.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:I agree. If they decide to release a Gears of War 7, it will be added to my hypothetical group.
Your logic is impeccable.
Aumaan Anubis wrote:You have successfully countered a statement that I made to sound clever.
Your statement was dumb.

I'm very calm. In fact I'm quite enjoying the argument. I'm sorry you didn't notice any flaws, because they were plentiful, perhaps you should take more time to read over your posts.

I don't really see what being depressed has to do with this, it just sounds like you're pulling random excuses out to make me feel empathetic towards you or something, as though that will mitigate the situation.

Just think of my post as a different type of rant.

It's numbers and lots of similarities between each game.
But mostly the numbers thing.
And yeah, you can release the same game four or maybe five times, with a different number, and it stays out of the group. Wantz to know why?
'Cause it's my group.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:And I assume you see the same thing in every sports game you've watched in real life?
Nope. I found Fifa Street and some Fifa World Cup Game that I played rather different. Other than the different environments.

GametagAeonFlux wrote:k. So you posted something you have no idea about?
Yes.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:...think of it as Square releasing over 20 RPGs with Final Fantasy in the name.
Just seems a tad bit repetitive.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:You're completely missing the point.
that's a shame.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:Your logic is impeccable.
Does that mean I win?
GametagAeonFlux wrote:Your statement was dumb.
That is HILARIOUS.

I'm afraid that I'm a very flawed human being. Lucky for you, when you're made a mindless robot of Tural's army, you're made near perfect.
GametagAeonFlux wrote:I don't really see what being depressed has to do with this, it just sounds like you're pulling random excuses out to make me feel empathetic towards you or something, as though that will mitigate the situation.
Oh, no. I'm quite aware that again, when Tural converts you into a robot, you lose all normal emotion. The depressed thing was sorta' related to the "tired/not caring" statement.

You may notice that I've pretty much lost all desire to put forth valid arguments or excuses for my statements. Perhaps I'm tired, perhaps it's a subtle way of saying, "Shut the hell up, you're right, ok? just leave me alone!" or maybe I'm trying to distract you...
How, you ask?

This whole argument is stupid. AA, you should probably stop baiting him with personal attacks and, as you put it, invalid points. If you have nothing legitimate to contribute any longer, the logical step would be to stop trying...

To make it clear to you, that is a comment about your stupid "robot, no emotion, etc" bullshit. Stop doing it.

Another instigatory post, one not relevant to the actual argument, like the one you just made, is going to land you in an unfriendly place.

He didn't think so, and as I read it, I didn't interpret it that way either. It comes off as very direct trolling for the sake of being argumentative, not in a joking manner. It's contextual, and the context is a serious discussion, not a joking one. It's difficult to read it as a joke when other serious posts were just made.

He said he was chock-full of fun facts, he made the "awesomeface.jpg" or whatev, he said he was enjoying the argument.
I apparently misinterpreted it as a lighthearted whatever the hell goes discussion.

All the hype about CoD games, the few times I've played, they seem like an average slow boring shooter.

Then, in multiplayer with COD4, I spawned in the same spot 19 times, and the second I took a step in any direction the small bit of cover from a sniper was gone and I was shot dead. 19 times in a row, you think the game/server might think "hmmmm, maybe put him somewhere else?"

Fuck COD

Well I'd love to test that theory, but I've lost any enjoyment that could come from that game. I have no urge to ever look at one again.

edit: And Tural, when did you start being so funny?

I don't understand the rant thread anymore.

All it used to be was me listening to JK-47 complain about his life, and me, being a sadistic dick, being interested.

Damn it, JK, why are you so happy?
