This is not the grand canyon. this is an artificial island on an artificial ring world.
*SPOILERS!!!**SPOILERS!!!**SPOILERS!!!**SPOILERS!!!**SPOILERS!!!*

you realize that humans and forerunners are the same thing right? Earth is actually a forerunner planet, hence the similarity halo has to it, and with your logic, bungie should have made up their own types of trees for halo but they used Pine trees and such. Which leads me to believe those trees are from earth. and just because this doesn't take place on earth doesn't mean sedimentary (multiple compacted layers of rock, like the kind archaeologists use to figure out stuff about the past) rock doesn't exist on other planets (artificial or otherwise)

speaking of trees, i think that certain tree texture you're seeing looks bad only cuz it's compared to the new ones, what i mean is that one is the default texture.

I highly recommend you to get flamingrain's animation out of these maps. It just kills the assault rifle. And btw what's wrong with the display?

And as for the sand ripples in b30 , use "detailmaps" not groundmaps. Add brightness, remove contrast and increase hue...
Also I would like to see it ingame when it's finished.
Sig over height limit.

the animations are all placeholders, Vette is helping me by making some custom animations. i just applied them cuz of the changes to the assault rifle, the default firing animation made it look like he was shooting a water gun, but the AR Packs more punch now so there will respectively be new animations that agree with the new changes

and what do you mean by ripples? sediment layers in the cliffs or the actual sand?

Update:
AOTCR reskin complete, the rocks are already reskinned (except for the snow rocks) so now i took the opportunity to do something very cool with the snow rocks...since this is a snow level, and there are also granite rocks placed on the map in addition to the snow rocks, i decided to change the snow rocks to hunks of semi-transparent ice!
oh, and in the pic there is also a new snow texture

new cliff wall texture

The snow texture looks kind of blurry and tiled.

But the other two are great. Especially the bottom picture, it adds a whole new look and feel to the room.

I love the look of the interior. It really gives it that feeling of old and ancient to it

Have you made the rocks into ice? It would be crap if you hadn't.

And now to steal those interior bitmaps *tip toes away with data*. Just kidding, they look fantastic!

right now i'm working on c10 (reskinning a biped or two just to fit this new reskin) and it's coming out great, right now i'm editing the lightmaps for it, but i got a PM about the ice saying i should put some snow on them, so i figured it wouldn't take long, so i did it

not like they are slippery and stuff (i don't know how to do that) but as you can tell they sure look like ice, which is what i was going for

Open the map in HMT and go to collision model. Find the boulders' collsions. Open the material and set it to ice instead of stone.

You said you're going for realism, I'm not sure if that's comical or anything, but even pure ice would not be transparent like that.

I have to agree with Veegie on accounts of realism, but it certainly looks cool. I like the interior as well.

looked into that just now, philly, but unfortunately there isn't a specific Collision model for the snow rock, it uses the granite rock's collision model, therefore i can't change it to ice without changing the granite rocks to ice

Update: there hasn't been any updates because i procrastinated cuz i hate lightmaps, but i reluctantly decided to finish them up for the sake of having something to update you with. i finally finished reskinning 343 Guilty Spark. now has green fog instead of blue fog, new textures for everything, new flood texture, new lightmaps. check it out
