Because you need the HEK to edit and make CE maps.

Like was said, changing the header let's HMT and HHT open the map. Of course some tags will cause errors. Bitmaps and sounds will either not work because they point to a location in the bitmaps.map (or sounds.map) file for CE which has different data or because the bitmaps and sounds are internal. The fix for those is to dupe the CE map and rename it bitmaps.map or sounds.map. Of course there's still other issues with things like ustrs and other tags that are stored in loc.map but there's no way of dealing with that unless you convert the map. In short, header changes let you edit but may not work for everything.EchoRanger449 wrote:you could just fix the header so you could...that's what I do when I'm editing effect tags, works faster than converting the whole map to pc.

Loc.map? So that's what that's for!
A while back I extracted the tags from b30 PC so I could work on the script in CE ( I extracted the b30, sounds, and bitmaps from my Halo CD). The Pelicans always ran into the water at the beginning on the level. The names for the Security panel and Silent Cartographer were also messed up. I finally solved the problem when I installed Halo and extracted the tags again.
