M4 [Sniper Remodel] beta

Post by au5t3n5 »

So instead of doing my summer hw which is due in like 5 days i made this model instead

Image

i was going for the carry handle, but since i already had a scope from the original sniper, and i dont think an m4 remodel with a scope has been made, i made one =)

i havent tested it ingame, so i cant get screenies + im kinda lazy and dont feel like sparking and hhting the map so i can see it in 3p

maybe ill do it later tonight?

anything you feel i should fix though?
I do remodels. I currently am trying to do custom remodels. Check out my models pack: http://bfeo.org/forum/index.php?topic=1160.0

damn...you shoulda done your homework, you do well in school and you can be quite succesful in CGI or video game industry, you got talent, that's a nice model i'm having trouble finding anything wrong, only couple things are one: it looks like the details would have to be skinned on, but after all, it isn't Ce so...of course the details have to be skinned on, Two: make the rails a bit thicker 9/10, my favorite assault rifle IRL also

a close attention to detail and determination will get you far in life, and i see both in this model

The Ironsight is very sloppy, and I have a feeling that that part won't look good in game at all.

Fix the clip still having that groove, and whether or not that's actually how the scope looks IRL, I personally am a bit turned off by it. Perhaps also offer a scopeless version?

Back of gun looks good, I like the trigger/handle.

The biggest problem is going to be giving detail to it, because I can tell by looking the model is stretched, and being the only way to really give it detial is through the skin, it's going to be extremely difficult to.

If you released it right now, I'd give it a 8.75/10. The Ironsight and scope knocked it off for me, and I'd like to see how it looks in game. If it looks good ingame I'd probably bump the score higher.

But you arent releasing it now, so instead, fix those problems, and earn a 10. I'd really like to give out one, help me out with that.

if you are to make a scopeless version...this is just a preference of mine, but i prefer this kind, the web page is a good reference for making those sights from scratch, even though it's just airsoft, seems accurate enough to me

i can't find a good pic of what hamster is trying to say about the existing iron sights, but i THINK he means...,

the iron sights should look something like this
Looking through the sights:
|\ . . /|
|| /\ ||
||.||.||
| . . . |
.| . . |
.| . . |
looking from the side:

. . . . . . . /^\
. . . . . . / . . |
. . . . . / . _ .| <------ the slanted part maintains it's thickness as it rises,
. . . . / . / .| .| then at the end it turns flat
. . . / . / . .| .|
. . / . / . . .| .|
. / . /_ ___| .|
.|_________| <-------- thicker than your model
.|--------------| <---------represents the actual barrel

ignore the dots, it wouldn't show up if i didn't put those in, pretend its like graph paper or something

hamster said he doesn't like the scope, but i think it looks nice, if you think it needs work though, this pic has a bunch of scopes in it for reference

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/mf ... mplesm.jpg

this was the hardest post i've ever made, making those pics out of text was harder than it looks

haha thanks guys

tbh, the hardest part was the iron sight, i could never get it right...which is why this is still a wip =P

i was planning on using the h3 animations, so it shouldnt look that bad as is anyway (least i hope)

as for the scope, i was going for like the scope thats like the third down on the very left column

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/mf ... mplesm.jpg

but then i kinda got a little side tracked and well it ended up what it is now lol

oh and since this is a remodel, and i pretty much used up all the pieces...dont bite me if i cant get it perfect ok? lol ill do my best =P

and i dont do skins...so we shall have to do without that

oh and ill widen the rails tomorrow/perhaps get pics if i can, im slightly drowning under my hw lol

i think this is my best model yet. cocking mechanism slides back also when you reload =) (well i modeled it to, so it should ingame, as always lol)

My post earlier seemed a bit harsh, I just wanted to clear it up: I like the model, a lot. I just know how frustrating it is that nobody ever complains about anything until you release it, so I wanted to give you all the things I saw that I didn't like, so that you can hopefully improve on them and make it even more likeable.

TL;DR: I like the model, keep it up.

i prefer people to tell me whats better than just say its good =)

i fixed the scope to make it less large and i tried it ingame

gotta fix up some stuff before i even think about releasing though =.=

edit: small update

Image

i fixed the scope mainly, ingame there is this hole that doesnt show up in the model, but i think i know how to patch it

some stuff just looks meh, so i have to fix those too =/ model just seems different in game, sigh

Holes are actually really easy to fix, if it's a missing triangle, figure out where the verts are, and drag one on the base it so it becomes a line instead of a triangle. If you can't get it I'd be glad to help.

I really like what you've done with the scope, even though it's not much. It looks infinite times better IMO.

Get an in-game. lol.

the scope itself looks better, but the position doesn't quite look right, i think you should raise it up just a wee bit and move it back on the rifle towards the stock

In-game thats gonna look worse than my crap in a cup I turned into the lab. Try to avoid the color white when modeling.
