speaking of setups, i'm on a vacation of sorts in TN for a month, and it would be just silly to drag my desktop around, so i've got just the essential gadgets with me:

old laptop:
1.2 Ghz, 256 MB ram
backtrack 2
fluxbox

NDS with metroid hunters, mario kart, and my brother's R4 :D

mp3 player + new headphones

fon router + dd-wrt firmware, so i'll always have wifi.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

Specs:
  • PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W
  • Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz - OC'd to 3.20GHz
  • Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870
  • RAM: OCZ Flex XLC 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1200
  • HDD: 2x Western Digital Caviar 640GB running in raid0
  • Case: COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000
The rest of the stuff is pretty much fine tuning so I won't bother listing it.

Just curious to know Exile Lord, How is that Coolmaster case? I was thinking of getting one soon.

I have the same setup as you, minus the ATI card. I just ordered a similar Asus board from NewEgg yesterday. I even have the same mouse and keyboard =]

Hwod does your ram get above 4.8? I have 2 gig and I only have 4.8, how did you ram get 5.8 or even more. Is your ram that much better then mine? :\

It's fast ram more or less.

HPDarkness, the case cost almost $200 alone. However, I find it to be very nice. It completely silences my cpu fan and muffles the video card when it isn't going nuts. The 4870 is loud when the fan is going above 45% and very hot when it's not. Provides pretty good airflow although I need to replace the case fans as they aren't moving as much air as I would like.

The whole computer ran me $1500 although I have spent $50 more now replacing the optical drives I had lying around which were horrible.

This computer will be outdated in six months though. :p

Quick questions:

As of yet is it possible to build your own laptop? ( I presume not... Had to ask.)

Does anyone know where I can find some really nice fragboxes ( all I can seem to find are Falcon which are ok, but this is my first computer in a long time, and I want to squeeze every penny out of it as I can...cause its going to have to last me for a while.)

I'm trying to make something portable... If I can't seem to do it ( or it can't currently be done) Ill just go desktop.
