Oh my god! That's adorable! Does it need an exotic pet license?

How much work is it to maintain?

Does it fly?

How does it deal with enclosed spaces?

How much does it cost?

Nope.

Yodel wrote: How much work is it to maintain?
Not much at all, he's very social so he'll want to be around you and whoever else lives with you all the time, you'll need to buy a pool for it (I got one at target for like $20) and just fill it up with a garden hose. The only real problem is when they're young they crap EVERYWHERE so their cage needs to be cleaned alot, when they're younger that is, when they grow older, it gets a bit easier ;) . You feed them non-medicated chicken feed, just fill up a little bowl with it and put it in the cage, refill it as the day goes on, they're supposed to eat it whenever they want, they know when they've had too much. They absolutely love water, when mine was a baby he would try to swim in his water bowl. Also, they follow you everywhere, so he's like your little sidekick. :P
Yodel wrote: Does it fly?
Yes, but rarely. He won't ever fly away because he believes we're his "flock" so he will stay with us at all times, he gets upset and quacks loudly when we're not around.
Yodel wrote: How does it deal with enclosed spaces?
That I'm not too sure about, mine only stays in a cage at night, during the day he stays in the backyard (which is enclosed of course) and there is a small pool back there that he jumps in all the time. In fact he's in his pool almost the entire time he's outside, swimming is his favorite thing by far.

I got mine as a baby at a feed store for $7. :D

That thing is adorable. Moar pics plz?

Also, how old is it? I have a pool already, but i don't know the exact measurements; probable in the ballpark of 20ft. By 15ft. And it's chlorinated.

Does he do tricks?

EDIT:

How often do you have to take him to the vet?
How does he do with being left alone in the house?

He's like....15 weeks now? They grow up extremely fast, I got mine around Easter time, he's been full grown for about a month now.

Ha, no.
Yodel wrote:How often do you have to take him to the vet?
Never, ducks can't get sick.
Yodel wrote:How does he do with being left alone in the house?
Not too bad, I'd imagine, we leave him alone all the time, I'm sure he'd prefer us to be home, but he doesn't go insane when we're not.

Mostly all of those are when he was much younger, except the first one.

It really makes me want one. The only thing stopping me from going out and getting one right now is the fear of my dog eating it.

I want a duck, but I hope he can be left around the house alone.

A-frickin'-dorable!

EDIT:

This website claims that 2 or more ducks are needed, and that they can't be kept indoors. What was your experience?

Having two or more would make it easier, yes, but being a duck owner myself I really don't think it's 100% necessary. My duck gets along just fine with just us, sometimes it seems like he's a little lonely in the backyard all by himself, and I have considered getting a second one. It's all up to you, if you really really don't want more than one, then just get one, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Alright, now it's down to hypoallergenic cat, or duck.

When putting the duck idea forth to my parents, they came back with several questions:

What will it do while I am away at school?

How can it swim safely if there are numerous predators around our property (Foxes, Coyotes, Raptors)?

Does it smell?

Doesn't it crap on everything not covered by ceram wrap?
