Why hack Halo PC?

Post by Seiru »

The modding pack comes out in a month...why bother? On the other hand, there will never be an official modding pack for Halo Xbox, shouldn't we focus on that version? I dunno, it just seems dumb for HMT and other programs to give Xbox the shaft.

the question is not why to mod halo pc, the question is why not. i mean it is there...go for it. if the developers didnt want us to hack it they would have made it super hard. but they didnt so have fun and shut up.

uh, yeah i read your post, and you are mistaken, so far all we know for sure is that the lek will let us mess with levels and add levels, we are doing much more than that right now.

*Sigh*...My point is, the stuff that HMT is doing for the PC version isn't going to be very revolutionary when the official mod pack comes out in a month. Shouldn't they at least support both versions of Halo? (I'm talking about map rebuilding)

key word month, theres 2 things about that

one: we have 2 wait a month

two: gearbox (dont get me wrong, i luv them and get pissed when people diss them, but really) has a bit of a problem meetin deadlines

oo oo oo!
i just thought of sumthin

they said those level packs would come out around december, do u think that maybe they'll be bundled with sdk, or that theyre waiting 2 do it so they can use sdk as an example of how well it worx

The reason I mod HPC as opposed to xBox, is because its here, its quick, its easy...When your testing to see if things work or not, its much faster to load HPC, click a few menu options, and see what worked, what didn't...With the xBox it involved turning on the xbox (another room atm), getting a cache, modifying it, uploading it, returning to the xbox, loading halo, testing it, see what worked and what didn't...Simply put, it is easier to test things on HPC, regardless if your xBox is beside you or not...

Now from HMT's point of view, rebuilding HPC maps isn't near as complex as xBox, due to the nature of the map files...With HPC, models are off in their own little area (rather than between the file table and the meta), as well as the xBox has raw data to contend with (bitmaps, sounds)...Basically the theory remains the same, and I don't forsee any major "hurdles" to be over-come making it work with the xBox, besides the acctual coding of it (since it has to rebuild the raw blocks aswell)...

When it comes to coding, your better off starting with the smaller easier task, as a proof of concept before making it work with the harder version which is just a more complex version of the one already created...While it may be important to you to have the xBox version, theres little point in holding back a PC version until the xBox one is complete, simply because not everyone wants it... ;o)

Well, allright...I guess you have a point.

It just makes me so anxious seeing all these cool mods being done for HPC, while I just sit here playing with meta. :-/
