Your avatar defines you: For you and for others.

Off topic chat. Basically anything that doesn't concern halo or halo modding can go here.

Do you believe that avatars in any way at all can affect your perception on a posts 'tone' of voice? AKA: agree with some of the points I have made within these pages.

I'm taking this 'face' idea to new heights.

<----Halo 3 Emblem ftw. It doesn't define a person. I think a signature has more of a personal touch, thats why its call a signature.

Your avatar says more about your mods than you may think. :P

Even though your avatar doesn't necessarily reflect your personality, other people see it all the time and they kind of subconsciously form an opinion about you. So yeah, it does affect people's views of you, even though it's not usually true.

<----- This describes me perfectly. In fact, that is why I chose it. I am a nerd who will come home, and during the winter, won't even take off my coat. I'll just start playing WoW, Halo, Crysis, or whatever. It also give me an aura of being anonymous.

Wow, don't even realize when I don't have it here.

Staring at a Mazdaspeed 3 that is parking, RIGHT NOW, is more interesting than this thread.

Anyway...I don't think the avatar changes anything. Continuing to use Tural as an example, as we are familiar with him, he stated clearly, even before he changed avatar images, that he's growing more and more indifferent to the website. The avatar has no correlation to his posting methods, except for maybe that both have changed due to the people of this website. If I make my avatar a giant smiley face, does that make me any different? No, it'll just make my positive posts seem more positive, because that what people will draw out. If anything, it's a selective perception.

I perhaps gave the wrong idea what I was arguing for. We shall all need to agree that avatars can affect perception. kthxbye.

Your anonymous. A mask. A nothing. Your only voice is in your text so you need to be careful. Why? Because the Internet is toneless and avatars help alleviate this tonelessness.

Yep. Lock your doors.

I think an avatar has extremely little effect on interpretation of a post. I look at text to find the meaning of a post, not unrelated images next to the text.

Nuff said.

The way I see it is if someone has no sig or avatar, they are newer and have less credibility.

It is ignorant, but it would make sense that the new users know less, and haven't set up a profile.
