make my ftp connection faster

Post by blackdiamond »

*note: please move this if it's not in the right place, im sorry if it isn't, although i do not think it is. did not know where else to put it...

i used flashfxp, smartftp, and other various programs. they all had this slow connection of like, a little less than 1mb/sec. how could i get it to, like 10mb/sec? is it my cable, my network, or what? how could i find out possiblilities for the problem?

This happens to me too. My laptop used to do it at 2mb a second, but now it is 500kb a second. The desktop computer can do it at 10mb a sec and that's strange because this a a better computer. But I would like to know how to make is faster too.

Well, I use FlashFXP and a standard Xbox Live Ethernet Cable that is connected to the back of my router. One thing you can try is completely disconnecting from the Internet, then connect again and it may go faster.

Crossover cables are (mostly) all made up differently
(excluding same makes)
And some are fast some not so fast

Try finding out on google how fast your cable is
there are plenty of high-speed cables around shops for tiny prices

if that doesn't work
Call up someone for help on speed through ethernet ports or something

hope I helped
:P

i think that the fastest mine can go is 3.5-4 mb/second. i have a motorola wireless modem, with one extra port for my xbox. could it be the cable or the software?

keyword: wireless.

Edit: it has more to do with your LAN adaptor but maybe you could try setting QoS settings on your router.

i got no idea what qos is, so i decided to go to my modem. but the user and pass is in that, and i never filled in a user or pass. if there is no other way, could i have some options for another one that has at least ports for my xbox and computer, can have at least 10 mb/sec, and is xbox live compatable(only for my 360, not my modded xbox)

EDIT: i know that it can do more than that(the 1,000 kb/sec is from the manual):

is it xbox live compatable? what brand name, model number, and software version is it? how much does it cost? and what does 10/100 mean?

10/100/1000 means 10Mbps, 100Mbps, and 1000Mbps (1Gbps) which is the maximum speed the connection can go, but for some reason it is misleading, in my experience a 10 connection can only go about <1Mbps and a 10/100 can go about 10Mbps depending on your cable lengths ;)

My 8port switch is a Netgear, i got it off ebay for a good $20 or so, works great :D

They measure it in Megabits per second instead of Megabytes per second. There are 8 bits in a byte so for every 8Megabits per second you will be downloading at 1 Megabyte per second.

Make sure that your router costs >$60.
Make sure that your Xbox AND Computer are WIRED to the router.
Make sure that your Ethernet cables cost >$15. (A piece.)

I did that and I now get 15mb/s transfer speed. So, like, 3-5 seconds per map.

"My router cost about $40, and my ethernet cables cost 99cents off newegg and I get 11MBps. If you spend more then $14 on a cable thats under 20ft your getting ripped off."

Try to reset your router. If that doesn't work login to your router and set it from 10mbps to 100mbps.

And try this: START, control panel, network and sharing center, on the left click Manage network connections. Right click on each one and do the fallowing:

Right click, Properties. In the network tab click configure. in the new window goto the advance tab. Now in the list box on the left find "Speed & Duplex" or something very close to that. Select the highest number under value. Mine is set to 1.0Gbps Full Duplex. If you only can select 10Mbps make sure u select the one with full duplex. After that click OK, then wait a minute for your internet connection to reset.
