Not necessarily. If you treat it as more than just a fad (like Tech deck skateboarding), then you will get a lot out of it.

When I was kid I saw the boy scouts and I thought it was cool, I grew up and realized its just a dumb American association following American stereotypes. Was this where they went camping and sold cookies right?
Also the boy scout teacher was homosexual (gay is censored) at my school and my parents weren't really all that happy about that either...

Now, not only do I understand their reasoning, I thank them.
Normally parents are all for that sort of thing.
Mine aren't.
Too many cases of molestation and kids being lost out in the woods. At least in my area.
Plus, if I want to go out in the wilderness and do the things they do, I'd rather do it with my family or friends. It's much funner that way.

"Is he non-White?"
"No."
"Is he qualified?"
"Just About."
Was he in Scouts?"
"All the way to Eagle."
"HE IS QUALIFIED. HE CAN TIE KNOTS."

You mean the US? Personally I don't see why they try to make it competitive, if they will award losing sports teams trophies.
