Speeding Up BSP Veiwers?

Post by Thrasher Alpha »

I remember last year when Prophet was being worked on, and I beta'd it. It was pretty fast and smooth, but now when I got the full one, sense im going to be making a mod soon, it was really slow. about 0.4 fps in full screen, or in normal, and Entity's probably wont even load, and if it did, 0.001 fps probably. How would I speed up prophet? Ive tried making it to D32 to D16, helped a little, not much. Then I tried making the screen small, it helped, but not much. How would I make it so its at least 15 fps or more? Ive removed all the unnecessary files that I don't need, closed ALL applications, what else could I do to help this?

I just got to CTRL+ALT+DEL>Processes tab and kill everything in my name (now kiddies don't touch SYSTEM or NETWORK SERVICES. Bad things happen to good people) that I don't recognize. Usually helps...

Your problem is probably your processer or video card not getting enough memory so just try to free up as much stuff as possible. And in case there are hidden apps using your internet, I usually just liek unplug my router when I'm about to run something big.

But hey, at least Prophet works for you. -Blam!- Windoze.

Yea I had to get some DirextX thing, but anyways... I set it to the fastest it can go, by putting it to the lowest in all things, and disabling the small things. I got it to 3 fps in small screen. I did close out all things, went into the Task Manager and closed out of all the things I needed, and thats the best I got to. I also disabled internet, didnt help.

Well, if your graphics card sucks then there's nothing you can do but get a new graphics card.

However, here's something to try.
1.) Start > Run
2.) Type "msconfig"
3.) Click the "Services" tab
4.) Check "Hide All Microsoft Services"
5.) Click "Disable All"
6.) Click the "Startup" tab.
7.) Click "Disable All"
8.) Click "Apply"
9.) Click "Close"
10.) Click "Restart".

Your computer should now run 10x faster and better, especially if you have alot of programs on your computer.

do you have prophets viewer speed set to a low number?

When it first loads the shaders of your map, (befor you move at all) tap the (+) to speed up the frames per second, and (-) to slow down.
you can adjust in game, but it adjust at a slower rate if you make adjustments after you start exploring to map.
Also the for best results (if the prob is your pc) is to do your editing, after a restart. when you close out of prophet and reopen it or any bsp viewer it will get slower and slower, cause each time it loads the shaders, it uses more memory.

I believe all the ideas posted, should you use all of them, would increase the speed of the bsp viewer incredibly :P

Unless your using an updated virus free 1000 Ghz windows PC imported freshly from china :D would'nt make much of a difference if they existed

Also If no-one has mentioned
having a bit of memory left can let your computer run 'smoothly'

hope this helped :P
