Um, Dont' be an idiot yourself. I happen to be a photographer and am quite familiar with Field Of Vision. Field of vision can be thought of as zoom... however it's not entirely correct. Increasing the FOV from 70 degrees to 90 degrees would not zoom in the picture... it would allow you to see more on each side, causing it to appear zoomed out. Field of vision technically is all about peripheral vision... it's the angle created by the cone of vision. If you have a smaller FOV you're not necessarily zooming in, although it may seem that way. Zooming is something you can control in photography and in Halo, FOV is not something you can change on the fly in either... Hope this clears people up on the technicalities. In any case who gives a rat's ass if it is called zoom or FOV. I don't understand why you had to come in here and be a prick about it mattp001.mattp001 wrote:do you even know what FOV does? because aparently you dont.

okay fuckin faglords look at this tutorial on FOV for darkbasic pro, a game creator. FOV=ZOOMhttp://files.thegamecreators.com/develo ... f_View.zip and photgraphers, you have to remember that we are dealing with te representation of a 3d object on a 3d screen so basically the same rules dont apply that do in the true 3d world.
Actually your dealing with a 3d object on a 2d screenmattp001 wrote:okay fuckin faglords look at this tutorial on FOV for darkbasic pro, a game creator. Jesus man, did you actually READ that thing you posted?! Did you miss the part where is says "zoom effect"? The only reason you get a zoom effect is because you are changing an in game horizontal distance where it is displayed in a fixed width, so it has not choice. Look its really easy. Field of view simply defines the angle of view from your point of reference. In cases where you increase the FOV, it appears as though you have zoomed out, because you are now trying to fit a greater amount of horizontal distance in the same space that you were previously fitting a smaller FOV. In order to accomodate the wider FOV, it has to zoom it out in order to fit it in the same amount of horizontal space provided by the monitor.
It doesn't really matter though, because minor adjustments simply allow you to see farther to the left and right, which most first person shooters allow you to do, and is ultimatley what the OP was after.

i know what it said. did you get the part about what i said: "A THREE DIMENSIONAL OBJECT BEING DISPLAYED ON A TWO DIMESIONAL PLANE" there for there is no real "periferal" vision. the game view isnt warped like an eyeball. so all it does is look zoomed. games like unreal tournament 2k4 or what ever game uses zooming, well in the code what does the zoom feature do? well it does something along the lines of this:
if zoombutton
then increase FOV to blahblahblah over 1 second of time
and overlay scope
i dont feel like actually writing the code out because it is alot longer than than. i write games and this is how zoom is done in them!

Additionally, if you are so smart, and you write games, then you should fully understand the advantages of having a 90 degree FOV vs a 70 FOV and that ultimatley that is what the original poster was trying to do. I went back and reread it, and the guy made no statements to indicate that he didn't know what he was talking about, you just saw what you thought was an opportunity to demonstrate your "superior intelligence" and then set out at trying to make this guy look like a fool, which IMO, was completely unnecessary.mattp001 wrote:-----------> representation of a 3d object on a 3d screen<-----------Just for the record.
If i remember right bitterbanana has been working with views for quite along time (look in his post history) AND NO ONE GIVES A SHIT WTF FOV IS! He was working on a 3rd person mod, along time ago i saw all his progress. Now hes trying this I think he probably has the skill to do it. You guys need to help him figure out his problem.!!!!
