The Darkness

Post by UPS »

I rented it tuesday, beat it yesterday. It was really damn hardcore. Basically, you run around as an ex-contract killer and its quite a bit like the normal FPS except for a few things:
1)You don't reload pistols. You pick up multiple ones and when you 'reload' you just drop them and pull out a new pistol.
2)A lot of talking, but the story is really cool.
3)Oh yeah, you can use the powers of The Darkness (a satanic being that uses you as a host. I believe there are more than one 'minds' to The Darkness, possibly 3 or 4.) The first power is the ability to summon a small snakelike creature that you control. This creature of darkness can climb straight up walls and almost anywhere, and once you get up close you can use its super huge teeth to bite enemies. Then you get the power of the darkness arm. Basically, this huge spike-ish thing that you throw out (it remains attached to you) and can impale people or objects (even cars!) Then you get the Darkness Guns, which are two pistol-like guns that use Darkness power as ammunition. Lastly, probably the most useful, is the Black Hole power. You can create a small black hole at where you are aiming that will suck people/objects into it and hurl them around until they die. Really useful way to eliminate big groups.
Once you've killed your victims, you can use the darkness to tear out their heart and devour it, and when you eat a certain amount your power grows stronger.

The game has really cool gameplay, as some enemies don't realize who you are, and will let you walk up to them and have a short conversation before you run them straight through and bash their body against a wall with the darkness arm.

My rating:
9/10

Had a neat storyline, and some moments had a very profound emotional effect on the character, was cool to get a view on the human psyche like that.

Some elements were lacking, but it's at least worth a play through.

It was a very fun game but I had no interest in playing through it again after beating it.

It really wasn't that confusing...
My 11 year old cousin figured it out pretty quick...
