Playing a song when the map loads

Post by Eaton »

Ok, I am making a mod for Halo 2, and I really liked the sound in the map that played in Induction, by The Swamp Fox. Or like in the Map Isolation, there are flood screams in the background. How can I make a custom sound like that play when a map loads? (I have Vista so no sound tool tutorials, please.)

unfortunately, sound tools will be needed.

u'd have to move sound scenery to a specific area, and have ur custom sound recorded over it.

Well, I guess I can use the desktop... How can I do it if I can use sound tools? I knew it had something to do with sound scenery, but how can make it so that it can play in lockout? What sound do I swap it with?

The entire map. I want the one from Induction to play. Which looping sound do I replace?

well, i looked into it, and the lsnd u r looking for is "sound\ambience\lockout\lockout\lockout". however, thats unimportant, cus the lsnd is made of 3 sounds; 2 u need, and 1 that is editable:

"sound\ambience\lockout\lockout\details\lockout_monogust"

extract that in sound tools (it should already be internalised) and edit to ur liking. (be sure it is the same .wav format as it was before!)

Ok. I'll try that. It seems more complicated than I thought.

Look through scripts in campaign. They have a script for playing a sound file..

You could make the script only work on startup, and play that song. :)

A script? Ok. I haven't played with scripts, but I will try all the methods posted.

Well, can someone tell me exactly what to do? I have never dealt with scripts before.

Ok, I looked into this and there are NO scrips in the map Induction. I think the best way it to swap the ambience sound of Lockout. But... What is the name of the sound that plays on Induction? I need to find it, extract it, and inject it into my Lockout. It plays in Induction and when the Arbiter and Masterchief confront Gravemind in Halo 2.

Why not just extract the ambience sound in Induction then?
As in, it may not have a different name, just sound.

Well, I cannot find an ambience sound file for Induction. I cannot test all of the other ones because my apparently, my computer does not have the right codec to play them, so I need to know exactly what the name is.

An ambience sound is relatively easy to find, if I'm not mistaken. For instance, in Zanzibar, go to lsnd, and there will be a tag called sound\ambience\zanzibar\zanzibar

Induction's may be sound\ambience\induction\induction, or it may be whatever the base map's ambience sound is. So, sound\ambience\base_map\base_map.

You don't need to test it out on the computer either. If you're desperate just inject it into the map, and test it out. Make a backup, though.

I looked, but the base map is Gemini and there are a couple. There are sound\ambience\gemini\leaves\leaves, sound\ambienc\gemini\pitched_chirps\pitched_chirps, and a more like that. I can' figure out which one it is.

Wait... I found a song file named scenarios\solo\07b_forunnership\07b_music\07b_05. I think I found it... I guess I will inject that over the Lockout ambience sound. That might work.
