Personally, I believe that to create a full-fledged virtual reality from pure code would be nigh-on impossible. It's just too intricate. A more viable system would be to use a combination of the users' memories. Each user would contribute their share of memories (expanding the reality each time), and an artificial intelligence would compare those memories. If a user's memory of a certain place was radically different than that of the other users, then the AI would only contribute the memories that it thought was realistic. These memories would be stored in a way similar to that in a human brain, and would be transferred to the users' visual, auditory, olfactory, taste-processing, and touch-sensing centers of the brain. Initially the world would be rather restricted, but as more and more users contributed to the system, the reality would become more vast. Eventually it would be a full-fledged reality, with users experiencing something similar to a very vivid, controllable dream.
because the people that DO know what they're talking about (like doctors, college professors, historians, etc.) can change the article. that is how we figure out that government agencies are editing wikipedia entries, because there's a group of wiki moderators and such that constantly check altered pages for accuracy and investigate the editor's IP if need be. like how you'll see the [citation needed] or an alert at the top of an article warning of it's possible inaccuracy or bigotry.KOH_Church wrote:but how do you know what is stated there currently is fact? you don't thats why it is so unreliable
anyways, this simulated reality is an interesting subject. not long ago I read the book the Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil about how very soon technology will be inseparable from our society. it touched on virtual reality, but based on what I got out of it, i'm confident that before long, maybe even in this century, we'll have the capacity to simulate life at a relatively detailed level. maybe not something as amazing as you'd think, but it's really only a matter of time until we simulate an entirely different society/planet/galaxy/whatever.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>
