Definately.

I've got a Zune. Lots of my friends have iPods. Sound quality is much better, and although it doesn't have EQ settings, it has presets that work pretty well.
I'll tell you what... you can drop $250 on an 80gb Zune on Amazon, get yourself ten times the storage of the iPod, then use the other $150 to print out photos.
Sounds good to me.
Oh, and I don't know if the iPod touch is able to zync with the PC over the WiFi in your house, but the ability to do so with the Zune is nice. It sits on the dock to stream movies and music to the upstairs entertainment center and syncs with the PC in the basement without having to be moved. It's more convenient than you'll ever imagine.

I rigged my iTouch so I can acutally download songs using it, and sync it to my library with no computer, Its like having limewire on my touch.

I see that everybody who has one thinks it is great, but why do you need it, eh?

It comes in variants that are dwarfed in comparison to any other mp3 player (size and price).

I don't understand why anybody would shell out $400 or $300 for a mp3 player. I have my video iPod, it does what its supposed to: play music.

Why not ask the same questions to people that buy expensive cars (they only need to go from a-b right?), xbox 360/ps3 (who needs internet browsers, wireless controllers and improved graphics, its for games, the ps2 has enough!), phones (all you need to do is call and tx yeah? then why buy anything other than the 3310?) or any other expensive luxury item?
Why did you even buy an iPod video? there a cheaper altenatives out there for just mp3's (which is what you state that you use, not for its video purposes)

It does really kool things, its new, its prestigious, its a luxury, its convenient.

What I'm saying is that you should either not buy something that does so little for 400 or wait until something that does comes out.

When the 360 was released it rivaled some PCs in processing power that were 1K. The PS3 did the same; it rivaled most supercomputers.. hehe.

I have a crap car that overheats evertime I idle at a traffic light too long; my parents have 3+ year old cars. Also, the fact that I have a 5 year old phone (parents do as well) doesn't bode well for your arguement.

You see, Scotty, your argument would work if I were American...

I work at Radioshack, ok? During Xmas I sold 50+ GPS units. 30% of them were, as I'm told, "going to my 60-70 year old grandmother/father".

IPOD touch ftw.

For what it is its pretty amazing.

Pro's:

The Screen is goddamn amazing to look at.
The screen is SCRATCH resistent. I use shirt to clean it, not a scratch =3
Video/Audio is fucking amazing.
Internet and YouTube are suprisingly fast when you have good wifi ava.
JailBreak is aweesome.

Con's
1st generation so they are only ava. in 8gb and 16gb.

I have:
3 2hour movies
4 episodes of scrubs.
2 episodes of south park.
2 comedy specials.
100+pics of my art work.
and
33 cds= 500 songs.
and still have 2 gbs left on my eight gb.

=3

I wasn't necessarily pointing fingers at you...I was essentially asking questions in a broad way...Basically stating that it happens with everything...Even if we don't need it, its just a luxury item, and people will want it for the benefits it gives, just like all the things I listed.

The iPod touch is a highly luxurious item with what it offers from out of the box and when being modded too. And people will always like that, regardless of some of the other options out there...So I wasn't attempting to take a stab at you with that...

Hopefully that made sense for you.

If the iphone was had more space I wouldnt even think about getting an ipod touch. I dont like putting my fingers on the screen either... and really the only bennifetial thing is wifi. But, you still need a connection to access the internet, unlike the iphone which uses satellite, so you can surf pretty much anywhere. I'd rather buy a 160gb ipod classic or whatever they call them now. Lol, I still have my 4 year old ipod thats all bulky which I put linux on. It works great and have been happy with it since I've purchased it.

Didn't bother to read anything aside from the first post in this thread. My cousin got an iTouch for Christmas, and then jail-broke it. Don't know what that means, but he did it. If that is something I should not be saying, please delete my post. :]

It's the best thing I ever bought, posting from one now. You can do so much and as of next month Apple is going to release some SDK info. Soon iTouch/phone development will really start going.
