its in my tut.

but for you, ill write it out here too.

its all very simple. the only colors allowed on the alpha layer is white, black and shades of gray. white is for something to be 100% visable. black is for something to be 100% transparent. the lighter the gray, the lighter the image, the darker the gray, the darker the image.

if you want some good examples of this in action check out the sky thresholds, halo ring and halo logo in photoshop comparing the actual pic vs. their alpha channel. you can also see this on the sniper scope zoom.

also, injecting multipul ppf patches on bitmaps will lead to alot of corruptions. this is why you never apply a ppf patch on ppf patched maps. thats also why FTW was released in map form so i knew people couldnt make that mistake.

So like would you have to make something black and then save it as a dxt3 or something? Or how do I get to the alpha layer?

k then mr. arrogant. I've got CS3 and CS2. Tell me how to edit the alpha channel in CS2 then.

I never said there wasn't alpha channel before CS3. I was saying that the whole layout of the application is different. No need to be an ass about it.

Umm, Yeah..

Anywho.. To find the channels IN ANY PHOTOSHOP just go to "windows" button at the top of Photoshop and pick "channels". If your copy of PS supports it, its there. Clicking this will make it appear as a tab on the right side usually in your layers box.

By ANY Photoshop im assuming you have something reasonable from PS 7.0 to the current CS3 Extended.

And in CS (8), 7. Probably down to 5.
