If you're building it yourself, I cannot praise the nVidia 7950 GT highly enough. However, for some lame reason, it costs MORE than the 8600 GTS, which I'll be getting in around a week. The 7950 GT is a fantastic card, though. Runs Need For Speed: Pro Street (best example I've got, newest game) on highest settings everywhere and 2x Antialiasing, and trilinear texture filtering (medium-ish, I think) at 1440x900 with the only stuttering being when there's a lot of smoke on screen.
But the 8600 GTS is probably even a bit better.

If you do get a Vista loaded machine, I suggest putting a dual booted XP on there. My dad's regretting putting Vista on his machine straight away, thus far, we had to buy about $500 in new electronics that work on Vista (Printers, etc.) and unlike OSX, doesn't have a Lower OS Mode. (Hence the reason our school G5s Running Leopard can manage Adobe Pagemaker and Photoshop 6.)

Wait... that motherboard is ATI right? I mean I know it's AMD but it says "crossfire" which is ATI tech, and you have a Nvidia card. I'm not good with mixing and matching Nvidia cards and AMD mobo's, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Shadowkhas, the 7950 and stuff are DX9, aren't they?
Yeah, I like the new 8800GT and GTS cards because they are a no-brainer. They're almost as good as, say, an 8800 GTX, minus like $300.

Correct. But yeah, looking at it now, it's not a good deal at all. the 8600 is cheaper and better. :p0m3g4Muff1n987 wrote:Shadowkhas, the 7950 and stuff are DX9, aren't they?

I agree. You should really consider a better graphics card, and perhaps a better processor. Especially if you are going to be doing anything related to Gaming.

If you have no idea how to build a computer. Go with a prebuilt, I doubt you want to spend all this money, only to find your pieces dead on arrival, or incompatible with each other. Then you'd have to go through returns, and NewEgg charges for restocking.
Also I thought you weren't able to buy things online? Now that you are, why not go and check out IBuyPower. Either that you could get a prebuilt computer from another company. (ie: Dell, Compaq, HP)
