nOOb with questions about creating new maps
nOOb with questions about creating new maps
Ok, I am completely new to modding halo and haven't modded anything since doom/quake on the PC back in the mid 90's. I am still working on getting my XBox modded, but would like to know is it possible to create brand new maps? Its been a long time since I used 3ds, actually right before it went from DOS to windows and the first windows version was the last time, but is it possible using a tool like milkshape or are there any map editors out there like there used to be for games like for there was for Doom 2 or Quake (1)
Thanks!
Thanks!

welcome to H2 modding, as I understand at present you can not make levels from the ground up due to problems with collision I really don't know why, everyone says we can not yet get to grips with Havok (collision engine) but we can make levels out of boxes (blocs) and bits of the map that can be moved with editors but are solid in game (machs) here is not too good an example because I can't find the good mach mods quickly, doorman has made models with collision so I suppose with enough modeling skills you could make a brand new map from scratch on top of the existing map (somewhere in the sky) but I'd imagine it would be a major b'yach
Good look with modding the xb

Apparently, bumlove understands that it's Halo 2, so I'll say what I have to say.
In the case of, swapping projectiles/bitmaps, active scenery, moving around objects, shader swapping, etc.
Then yes, we can make a map.
In the case of editing map geometry, creating a custom map like H2 Vista...
Then not yet

an interesting idea...i'm amazed i never thought to do that
i only ever considered the shared map to be good for some kind of factory or test facility made from machs

Theres something random though kinda fun, I call it waterworld any way there is one more trick I have with bsp's and parst of bsp's. I can merge pieces but there is no collision of phom so its point less.

Sorry yes halo 2, well that stinks on the no new maps, but you can make new maps on the PC version then?
It appears from what I have seen so far that modding H2 consists of actually modifying game data files (images, models, skins/bitmaps, and propertiess) not actually writing "code" like I did with quake for instance. Is my assumption about this correct?
Thanks guys for the input. For now I am having problems getting windows to write to my FatX USB stick using oxxmemory stick writer so I may have to wait til tomorrow when I can try linux on my laptop.

No the only coding you can do for any halo on xbox is scripting.
