port 80 has nothing to do with hosting a game. that is a HTTP port. ports 2302 and 2303 should be fine. i am behind a router and 2 firewalls and i can still host games.

Uh, sir, I think you're wrong.

Port 80 allows your server to be seen on the list, if i'm not mistaken.

Port 80 - HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol * (e.g. for web browsing). Currently (2003-07-05) HTTP/1.1 is officially described in RFC 2616.

Ports 2300-2400, 47624, 6073 for microsoft networked multiplayer games, * only 47624 is registered as "Direct Play Server", if needed also see MSN Gaming Zone, * only 6073 is registered as DirectPlay8, if needed also see MSN Gaming Zone

i am run my own server, i think i know what i am talking about. port 80 is for internet. if port 80 was blocked then they would not be posting.

Um, yeah. You just contradicted yourself. lol.

I know that's the http port. I don't need you to copy and paste to tell me what it is.

How do you think Halo reads the master server list?
Port 80.

halo read the list from the gamespy service, which runs in combination with Microsoft, why would they use port 80 to get the list and port 2302/3 to play the by connecting to the server. i am 95% positive that Halo connects using port 2302/3 to the microsoft server which relays the server list to the halo client application.

and how did i contradict myself?

Well, you were like "It doesn't need port 80" and all this stuff, and then saying you hosted games on it. Which it does need port 80.
That's a contradiction.

Here, clicky.

what i said was that if you had port 80 blocked then you cannot connect to the internet. Which means that your computer cannot be seen by the mircosoft server. But ultimately Halo uses port 2302 and 2303 to play online it only needs port 80 to metaphorically say "I'm here" to the microsoft game server. it is not involved in anyother way. you can host a game without the internet, nobody will see it, but you can. Halo does not use Port 80 to play online, just so that it can be seen. so my statement is correct in saying that Halo uses 2302 and 2303 to play online, and that is what the information is sent through to the person hosting the server when you play.

1. from what you were saying it was infered that you meant that and you did say it was used to play online, for without the list of server how do you play "online"

Suuurre, I made a fool of myself. In your perspective. But to me, it seems as if you're the fool in this situation. So please, gtfo, if you're be that way.

I'm not going to continue to argue with you anymore. That's dumb.

bottom line: All i said was that port 80 was used you your server could be seen. that's all. and you tried to argue with me about it. Don't argue with me on things like this, I know these things.
