game messed up!!!

ok, this is basically what is wrong, i was modding weapons just for fun when the graphics for halo on the pc (or any other game like ut2004 or WOW) have messed up and the pixels are all screwed up. like i shoot a rocket and instead of blowing up like it normally does it shoots out a rainbow of colors and when i just start the game in the menu the colors are messed up (instead of blue its red and white and very hard to read)

This has happened to me twice before and every time i fix it eventually but in different ways and if i try the ways that i used before it just doesent work.

Any ideas?

Try resetting your graphics card.

Not working still?
Reset your RAM by shutting down computer.

Not working?
Reset PRAM (Sparingly).

Replace your bitmaps.map with a fresh one.

i had some problem where everything was displayed in ortho. go to ctrl panel>display> then change stuff there, set it all to highest performance.

ok, i tried willtheoct's idea, it didnt work then i did spartans, that didnt work eather, now just one ? how do i reset the graphics card?

- for anyone who is going to sujest abother answer, just rember that the problem isnt only with halo but with any game that i use
