I don't think you understand. I'll put it in laymans terms for you.
Vista requires more than 512mb of ram to run DECENTLY 1 gig will get you decent performance (everyday office use) while 2 gigs will let you game. 512mb on vista is like 64mb on XP. It just doesn't have enough resources to run. That's it. Go find 2 gigs of RAM at Compusa or bestbuy for however much, and you'll be good. Not to mention find a decent graphics card. Vista requires much more than an integrated resource hogging card.
Think of it this way, you're integrated drops your amount of RAM to abour 380 ram, you have less than the minimum, and your comp will blow.
RAM 1st, vid card is optional (but advised)

Yeah... that's the bad problem with vista. If ur comp only has 512mb you're screwed. i was going to test out windoze vista but apparently i only have 382 mb, not to mention vista sucks..

not to mention you look like a dumb*** when you say that...Vista doesnt suck. Every OS has its ups and downs. I use vista, and i like it. So does DJpeow130 wrote:Yeah... that's the bad problem with vista. IMO XP sucks. i have to use frekin XP at school. IDK why people say Vista sucks. my vista is alot faster than xp. say you have 2 computers. they are exactly the same except one has vista. The one with vista would run a bit faster (i did this).
KK. 'nuff about saying vista sucks when you dont try atleast Vista Home Premium (people are buying Home Basic and saying it sucks because all the does it change your os to look like vista and have its search features. Look at the back of the box!)
On XP, i don't have to approve each and every program everyytime i want to start one, and if i turn it off i turn off my antivirus too.
On XP, i don't need more than 512mb of RAM to perform simple tasks like running MS Word.
On XP, i only have 37 processes running, while on vista the minimum for running capablities is 80.
On XP, i can use my actual video card drivers and DirectX 10.
On XP, nearly every GOOD antivirus program is compatible, i.e. NOD32, Kavspersky, AVG, Zonealarm.
If you have a vista computer, you're computer automatically requires 1 gig of RAM to run more than 6 programs without computer slow down.
XP Is one of the better OS's for gaming and/or office use. Windows vista is crummy and useless.
Other horrible things about vista
1: Since you can't modify it (no msconfig...since there's no cmd prompt unless you reboot and choose it), it runs at 800MB RAM used idle and uses roughly 22% of a 2.4GHz processor (at least on my brother's computer...).
2: Vista does not support older games that have openGL.
3: "Since Windows Vista's launch, the drivers have been a big issue. Lots of hardware components (old and new) had no drivers for Windows Vista or, even if they had, their quality was very poor. One of the most prominent examples is Nvidia. When the GeForce 8800 graphic cards were launched, they were labeled as "Designed for Windows Vista". It is only natural that many people asumed the graphic cards would work well with this operating system. Unfortunately that was not the case, as the Nvidia drivers had lots of issues. There were numerous posts on Nvidia's official forums commeting the bad state of the drivers. Some users even built internet pages such as nvidiaclassaction.info to gather evidence for a class action suit.
Since then, Nvidia worked hard on the Windows Vista drivers and released many new and improved versions. However, their latest driver - Forceware version 158.24 - still has plenty of issues. For example, popular games such as World of Warcraft have low frame rates while others crash during play or have corrupted textures."
4 Application Problems: "rivers are not the only problem. Lots of applications do not work either on the new Microsoft operating system. That's because many software developers created applications that function only if the user has full administrative privileges. With the introduction of UAC (User Access Control) and other system changes, lots of old applications have problems. The most prominent example of an application that was incompatible with Windows Vista is iTunes. Whenever the Windows Vista "Safely Remove Hardware" feature was used, it corrupted the user's iPods, requiring a full restore. Also, iTunes text and graphics had display issues with Windows Vista. However, upgrading to iTunes v7.2 or higher solves these issues."
You may enjoy vista, but you obviously know nothing about how a good operating system works.

Not a Vista vs XP thread. Help or Leave. As for the memory, I would recommend upgrading it, but I don't think that's the reason Halo wont install. I have Vista Home Basic, 1500MB RAM (1300 since my Video Card pulls 256), and my computer can run Halo 2 Vista, Halo PC, Firefox, and Photoshop cs2 all quite well at the same time. My Graphics are even quite nice on H2v...
Also, try extracting the files off the disk as an iso, then mount the ISO with something like Virtual Clone Drive, then attempt to install. I recommend you have at least 10gigs of free HD space, along with at least 1.7ghz of Processor speed.
Also, I really like Vista. Your opinion is bias, so stop trying to attack other user's opinion. Every OS has its issues.

And DJ...hmm i dont know what would be the problem. I would recommend getting a sound card just because the problem is in the Sounds.map. And if everything gets installed but the sounds.map why dont you just install that manually. And is there a custom install button?peow130 wrote:On XP, i don't have to approve each and every program everyytime i want to start one, and if i turn it off i turn off my antivirus too. 3: I have had no driver problems with my 2007 laptop.
4 Application Problems: My Itunes works. And all my .exes work with no problems

Haha...know nothing.
Edit: woops sorry I didnt read your post earlier shout.
But does vista allow for better antivirus than the sh*t it comes with?Andrew_b wrote:And DJ...hmm i dont know what would be the problem. You havent had driver problems because you haven't upgraded anything.
The cmd prompt thing my friend told me, no i'm not bias, vista just sucks ass. Tell me one thing vista can do that XP can't. (PM me) also, on my other forums theres a man who knows about 6x more than i do about os's and says that xp is better than vista.
@Shout, i did attempt to help by saying more RAM would help greatly, i just got attacked saying that i'm a moron.

I attempted to help, i just got flamed.
I'm saying your computer would run a hell of a lot better with 1-2 gigs of RAM, you could achieve so much more with vista.
I just noticed you have no sound card...
how do you not have a sound card lol?
I suggest getting one, it's one of the problems. and 510MB of RAM?

still, i'm sure a sound card would help.Death~John wrote:Sound card isnt a problem, It even said that.
and I built my computer out of various brand-name products, like a monitor from gateway, a motherboard from alianware, ect.
Still, 510 mb of ram is odd.

Dont forget windows vista needs 512mb of ram for its self....
On par with that halo needs 128mb dedicated ram on a video card for a decent looking graphics on your pc.

what r some issues with XP i have found none, it runs perfect for me....oh and D~J i suggest iether ugrading ram, and getting a sound card, or switching back to xp, i have been to many forums that sicuss the same thing, and it is pretty clear that XP is best for gaming, im getting a new computer, and it runs vista, but i also have hella ram so it wont be much of an issue.SHOUTrvb wrote:.
