Import the Wrl file when you have your bsp open in 3dsmax or gmax. Then it should show you where the errors are.
Well this one is smaller

You import it into 3ds Max and the colored lines that were imported correspond to errors.

You can import the WRL with Chimp, I think.

I know you are. Does it have an 'Import WRL' option. I vaguely remember it having one.

Nothing should change colors. New splines should be imported where the errors are. (To see them, switch to wireframe in the viewport.)

Nothing, just leave them there. They point to where the error is. So fix the error that is there.

Since the problem is Overlapping faces. You should see 2 faces that are overlapping each other. Delete them both and recreate one face.

Also, the Hek_Tutorial tells you exactly what to do to fix the error.
HEK Tutorial wrote:Error:
When compiling using Tool the following error message appears:

### ERROR couldn't build bsp because of overlapping surfaces (orange)

Solution:
This is typically caused by intersecting or interpenetrating objects or object volumes.

A good example would be where there are 2 cubes and one of the cubes has been placed intersecting the other.
