Scoliosis wrote:quite frankly, we may see the difference between cheating and creativity but Microsoft and bungie doesnt. The only thing they see is modding.
Why do some people here talk as if they
know exactly what Bungie is thinking.
I completely disagree that Bungie do not see the difference, and only because they actually mentioned
this. Unless you actually have some concrete evidence on this crap your making up?
Scoliosis wrote:If they even tolerated us we would be allowed to play on live, hell we would even have our own section on XBL (matchmaking, custom games and modded content). but see thats the problem...Modded content includes cheating and creativity. They cannot distunguish between cheating and moddec content, they only see unsigned code running on their servers.

Thus, If your online with modded content, your breaking the rules laid down by Microsoft. Bungie don't have a say in it.
Scoliosis wrote:Every time I hear "we are not cheaters, we are good modders" it makes me sick. There is no such thing as a good modder. like it or not, cheaters have more in common with us then Microsoft and bungie. we are all branded in one catagory; modders.
Of course we're all part of that category, we do after all,
modify. How you can even write this though, on this site, is beyond me. Look around you, every person in this topic (apart from you it seems, who is looking down upon us) is a "good modder", as is anyone who has ever contributed to this site.
Scoliosis wrote:If they wanted to they could of stopped Halo 2 modding dead in it's tracks by destroying the filetable in the release versions of map builds. Obviously they chose not to for whatever reasons...but if we didn't have the filetable we would be back to silly offset lists and such, manually poking around in the map searching for tags...
I will say this for that quote. Halo 2 modding will never be stopped because it would be redundant and a waste of time to stop halo 2 modding when we are on the threshold of halo 3. However, being on the threshhold of halo 3, your idea to destroy the filetable would not be to bad of an idea to stop halo 3 modding.
Your thinking in the wrong timeframe. Xbox quite obviously stated that "If they wanted to they could of stopped Halo 2 modding dead in it's tracks by destroying the filetable in the release versions of map builds", quite obviously meaning every map in general.. from the very start...
Scoliosis wrote:we will never have the right to mod. It hasnt stopped us yet and we wont let it
Er.. ok, take note though that Bungie could have very easily make life very difficult when it came to reverse-engineering the map format used in Halo2.
Scoliosis wrote:The only distinction between cheaters and creators (used to describe people who use modding to create new game content, much like halomods) are simple words, the way we would describe eachother. Think about it. We have all these great programs (Entity, Insolence, DotHalo, ADI) and with updated tags, autoaim with an unzoomed sniper rifle is a 2 step process. point being, cheaters and creators use the same methods to make the mods. They even ued the same methods we did to mod their consols.
Now understand this. I am not calling the people at halomods cheaters. But we do have alot in commopn with them. Try to understand this:
From our creative point of view, we engineer new content for our game for enjoyable purposes and we think cheaters are A**holes because they ruin the game for us.
From a cheaters point of view, they engineer new weapon content to make the game more enjoyable for themselves and they think, that us creators, are A**holes because we ruin all their fun.
to a cheater, cheating is enjoyable and they think what we do is boring and dumb. to a creator, cheating is retarded and we think what we do is enjoyable. so why is it that
both sides, cheaters and creators, mod for the same reasons (for enjoyment) but we have opposite opinions of eachother? Kinda reminds me of left vs right in politics. You may be branded left-wing or right-wing, but you are still a politician.
the point of all this you ask? cheater or creator, we are still modders and we are all branded modders. thus, that makes us the badguys together. Neither side will be allowed on live, ever.
so far you've
2. associated us with cheaters.
like it or not, we are associated with cheaters, if not on a personal basis.
Damnit man, cheaters cheat to raise a level, how do we anything in fucking common with that? You may not have noticed, but whenever you get modded on live every weapon acts like a nuclear weapon in the hands of the cheater. That is enjoyment? Ruining someone else's experience in such a way for your own is borderline sadistic.
I'm not even going to bother to counter the rest of what you've said seeing as you've managed to complicate so intensely, when it was not at all complicated in the first place
